    Duck trouble

Drew Ducks, what does the Vet recommend? Even bones that have been damaged will come back eventually. If it were me, I would be thinking about either a walker or a splint of some kind to get him through this. Also, if you do plan on doing this, you might want to think about adding some...

    Duck trouble

Let us know what happens. I am so hoping that everything is going well with him and the visit will be a good one.

    Duck trouble

I am so glad you were able to find a Vet to help out with this! a lot of us have to go it alone and it can be a scary thing. Crossing fingers and toes that Huey is going to pull through this with just the meds and no surgery. Poor guy, you do realize that he's 'yours' from now on? I have...

    Duck trouble

Drew Ducks, that is great news. Here's hoping that the Vet will be able to come up with something simple and inexpensive to help him with the pain. I know it's been said here before, but warm baths are a big part in helping with pain and mobility. Ask any of us who are old enough to know the...

    Duck trouble

Like I said Drew Ducks, Baytril is the Acme brand antibiotic and can cure just about anything. Awesome!!! Now as Miss Lydia said, you really want to think about a probiotic to give him, but wait until the whole course, yes all of it, are given to Huey. I would be afraid the probiotic could...

    Duck trouble

    Is it covered?

    Duck trouble

Yeah, you need the Baytril...Look, if a scab forms, it should be fine to pull it off and get anything right underneath it. Don't go digging. Make sure everything that is going to be used is sterile and spotlessly clean. When it gets this bad, the risk of spreading the infection to more tissue...

    Duck trouble

Ask the Vet to give you Baytril. This is hardcore antibiotic and will kick the infection hard. No idea what the cost is, but it can't be much more than treating with what you have been using over and over. At least ask and see what the difference would be. Baytril should clear this up...

    Duck trouble

Excellent! More than that will cause trouble, how 'bout the anitbiotic? How many days left?
  11. Haunted55

    Duck trouble

What I want to know is how often you are putting the iodine on him.

    Duck trouble

Okay, that's good. The kernal was a plug of pus I assume. Yellowish white? Keep up with the antibiotic and apply the iodine every 4-5th day. Again, more pictures if you can.

    Duck trouble

Drew Ducks, is it possible to get more pictures? I really need to see this. Are you sure it's a bumble or is it just swelling? Also, I know it's a pain, but would you please tell us everything your guy eats, any vitamins, what kind of bedding you use, everything and anything.

    Duck trouble

I am so very glad to hear this!!!! Progress is always a wonderful thing and maybe it'll wipe the infection out this time! Just watch and when the antibiotic is finished, make sure he doesn't slip backwards. Sometimes with a penicillian drug it will take more than 1 or 2 courses to get it all...

    Duck trouble

Miss Lydia, ya done good! The iodine does need to be kept up as the ampicillian isn't the best choise for what is going on. Between the two, I think this may be able to be licked with no lasting affects.

    Duck trouble

Every 3 days is too much. Use it every 5 days with an antibiotic. You can overdose with the iodine with ducks, as their skin takes it in easier than a chicken would. Please, 5 days.

    Duck trouble

Are there still bumbles on the foot? If not, don't put the iodine on the foot, just the swollen area of the leg.
  18. Haunted55

    Duck trouble

I want you to start painting the swollen area as well as any bumbles left on the foot. When you cleaned out the bumble, I'd have to say that something was left behind and the swelling you are seeing higher up on the leg is classic of the staph going into the joint. Paint it, and hope for the...

    Duck trouble

Okay...have you used the colorless iodine? If not you really need to get you some and soon.

    Duck trouble

I have some questions. Did this start out as Bumble foot? If so how did you treat? the reason I am asking is I think I spoke with you before, but can't remember for sure. Do you have any updated pictures of the foot? What kind of duck is this, Grand Pekin? And please, the age of him.
