I have read Sally's guide also, probably 3 times! But it does say not to open the incubator so you don't harm any unhatched "pipping" eggs. I don't open the incubator if I have pips. If I want to take a chick out, I wait until I have the right opportunity and it's between pips. The longest I've...
Ok, thanks! I'm just going to run dry then. Because my humidity is running 40% with no water in the incubator. I keep reading people swearing by 60% for the peas but others on the dry end. I turn 3xday. I'm only on day 3. Half the eggs are light and the other half are dark with speckles...
Darkbluespace,
I was given 6 peafowl eggs a few nights ago! I'm wondering what do you keep your humidity at for them?? I keep reading mixed answers! And on what day could you see veining? Thanks!
Day 20 starts in about 3 hours for me. I can candle through the side of my incubator without opening it and I can see that the air cells are starting to draw down, but no internal pips yet. I know I'll have action tomorrow! Good luck!! Update when you have some pips! :)
Oh man that stinks! It can either make you wanna give up or give you more determination to try again! I'm waiting on my neighbors peacocks to pick up laying so I can incubate them for him. I've heard they are hard! With shipped that means double hard! Did you ever try to hatch them in an incubator?
Congrats on your babies! I joined this HAL late, so I'm actually on day 19 with my chicken eggs. I just realized that I better get the brooder ready ASAP because I've read that bantam eggs tend to hatch early. I'm thinking Wednesday. But you never know. You still have lots of hatching to watch...
I'm on day 19 too. I would hatch them in the Brinsea so you can watch!!! You've done all the work, I wouldn't be able to put them under a broody & miss all the action! But I'm a newbie so probably with time I could...maybe. ;)
This is my second hatch with the Brinsea mini as well. Last hatch I tried to help a chick that was clearly not ready and the membrane bled and it died. I was so upset but in hindsight it was very valuable experience. I don't think I will step in again like that. There was a reason it didnt hatch...
Beautiful!! I love chicks!! I had never heard of that bread before, the double silver-laced Barnevelder, so I looked it up....wow!!! Beautiful!!! Will they look like this when they are older?
Lets keep in mind that there are two different hatching philosophies. One is the hands-off method and the other is the hands-on method. There is a huge thread about it: "He said/she said, who's right/who's wrong". The most important thing to each philosophy is getting healthy hatches with a good...
Some eggs can take up to 24 hrs to start zipping after an external pip. And some get right to it!! What is important is that once they actually start zipping it should take about 2 hours. The hardest part is waiting after you see that little pip! Congrats on it though! Should be today!!
I...
Here's the instructions I go by for the float test. I'm not sure if you would see movement if they are not fully formed yet. What day are you on? I saw that you did the test but wanted to post a link because it has a lot of info! Good luck...
