Houston we had a problem!
Brooder temp was 41* according to my reader in the kitchen which means the barn, and the water pipes, are colder than that
Luckily I had already been thinking about how I was going to do this so I modified the plan a little. I grabbed the water bottle an turned the...
Today is take a chickie to work day, or rather, take ALL the chickies to work day. I have just about everything worked out except how to get the chickies from the barn to the garage. See, it's below zero outside. And it's kinda a long way from the barn to the garage. And I don't have any beans...
My hatch is complete, 24 set. 20 moved to the bator after the broodies bailed, 18 were locked down, 15 hatched and so all look good.
These were all my own eggs, and for the winter I have everyone mixed so these will only be egg layers. Getting ready to separate into breeding groups to get...
Happiest part of this new year? Sitting in the game room watching DH play online with his BFF in Tuscan while I cuddle a formerly shrink-wrapped chick while she dries after her bath. She is #15 out of 18. I think the other was a post pip quitter and the other two quit before pipping. This little...
Local time is 10:28 pm
It's -8*F
I have 11 in the brooder
2 drying in the bator
2 more that look like they may make a break for it
and a couple more that could just be fashionably late
We'll know more tomorrow, it's been a great first day of what will hopefully be a really good year. Glad...
The stroll was worth it, 5 more hatched, drying in the bator. A few more popped.
DH is surprised by how much better the hatch rate is over shipped eggs.
And as an added bonus, got another fertile turkey egg
It's time, once again to go check on the chickies. I thought I'd share the joy of my stroll to the barn...
This is from the back deck as I start across the yard to the pasture
Once through the gate it's about 200 feet or so to the barn
See my sweet puppy waiting patiently for me? He is...

As soon as I could tell she was glued to herself I sta:laurted getting her bath tub ready. I just sat in front of a movie and soaked her, rubbed her, soaked her, rubbed her. Super glue could learn a thing or two from egg goo! That is some seriously sticky stuff!
Thank you, Michelle...

I just checked a turkey egg, it had a bullseye so the other one is going in the bator today, it can start while I wait for the rest to finish and for the silkie eggs to arrive. So technically I will be starting turkey today, silkies later in the week, but yes, I'm with ya!
