We've been breeding them for nearly 10 years and our cabinet incubator sits at 99-100 degrees and 55-65% humidity. At lockdown, we switch over to 75% humidity. Works like a charm. :)

As the females age, their bills will get more and more color, eventually being solid. This can happen at 2 years old or 10 years old, ya never know when. But the more she starts with the sooner it'll be solid.

If they start laying before winter, it's likely they will continue to lay throughout winter. At least their first year. This is why we stagger hatches, but have never needed to use a light.

Out of curiosity: How many Anconas does everyone have? If it's a fluid number, just average.

Taking into account where the color is and how scattered the markings are AND where the "brown" color is. I'd say he's a black drake with heavy rusting. It can go up to the shoulders and along the sides easily. If his head and tail are black, he's black. Cute boy :)

I hear ya, WildSam! The P.O. just conveniently "forgot" one of our batches of shipped eggs. We waited weeks for them to show up and when they finally did, what a mess!! LOL. We are definitely pushing people towards ordering ducklings. It takes longer to fill their order, but at least the post...

Oh yes, there's ALWAYS more. LOL! They will continue laying until at least Nov, so ANY TIME you want some, we should have them. :)

We breed, but have so many eggs per year that LOTS of them go to our dogs as food, ourselves as breakfast, and other customers to eat and bake with. Once you try them, you'll be hooked. SO TASTY! Our females produce up to 280 egg/yr - WAY too many to ever hope to hatch all of them, LOL. And...

I'm sorry. Where on the website did you try? Did you fill out a form? Did you email me? Facebook can be difficult to check (can't do it on my phone or ipad), but PMs on here and email gets read pretty often. If you don't have my email, it's Worth It Farms @ gmail.com (remove spaces). It's the...

Yes, I would. And I agree with learycow, that's what most seem to be sticking with. It's the best we've got and it's what defines the breed from other breeds, so it makes the most sense.

If you are interested in learning more about the different colors, you are welcome to visit our website at http://worthitfarms.jigsy.com/ancona-colors It is true that the APA does not recognize this breed. Dave Holdderread has a written breed standard you can order from his website, but since...

HarriedHomemaker: From left to right I'd say, Either lightly marked lilac OR silver, depending on the color of that dark feather it is either a lilac or a silver (if feather is black its a silver, chocolate then its a lilac) -very pretty but heavily marked either way, can't tell much from...

Technically the runner markings are found on tricolors. Think of a fawn and white runner. Color on the head, white eye marking, white around the collar, color on the back and wings including the chest. That's how you ID tris. They lack the extended black gene, revealing all the underlying colors...

Focus on getting color on the chest, that's the hardest to do. Broken color is preferred over solid color, BUT if you breed a Magpie-type (homozygous extended black) to a Runner-type (no extended black), you will get all ideally marked birds (heterozygous extended black). Breeding ideally-marked...

We have the full variety of colors and hatch/ship them straight-run. We have another batch due to hatch this weekend, so we might have some as early as Monday to ship out. Most likely though, you will have to pre-order and we will hatch some for you specifically.

Could be closer to a Khaki Campbell color, either way it's a tricolor. I'm still trying to learn all the specific patterns. The blue fawns usually start out with a blue type down.
