I'm not sure if you can breed it into Light Brahmas, but there are white birds out there in other breeds that are a silver based "stay white" genetic combo that I really need to know more about that won't yellow it's corn or sun. Have seen it in Langshan and Plymouth Rocks for sure.
3. Dark (silver) over Partridge (gold) pullets will give you all Dark pullets and Silver/Gold split males, take the split male back to the Partridge and you'll get females of both Partridge and Dark and males will be 50% partridge and 50% splits.
When working with non-standard project colors, it's that, it's a project, and progress is a good thing. Each year you improve this or improve that, and then all of a sudden...BOOM! Ya got it!
They both look like they narrow significantly to the rear. So that'd be a big point of emphasis going forward were it my program. They look like they have great width at the shoulder and heart girth area, they just need to carry it all the way back. The pattern looks very nice though.
Edit...
Just think WIDE, as a friend and sometimes mentor who breeds great asiatics (Brahmas and Cochins) told me, "when it comes to these there is no such thing as too wide."
Day old. Tim is right about different size thumbs, you could use thumbnail if you wanted. I'd say you're looking for, what, about 3/4", maybe 5/8" at the narrowest Tim?
They're talking about the width of the skull being at least as wide as your thumb. So you take the chick and lay your thumb on top of its skill, the widest point should be as wide as your thumb/thumbnail
Question for my asiatic brothers, piggy backing off the question a few posts up, do you grow out all your birds and then cull? Or do you cull along the way for things like growth rate and vigor?
What a shame, I hope they link the old thread somewhere here.
TNBEARCHICK, I love that third picture of the Light male, look at the width on that guy! Great shot to show the width these guys should have.
