Some chicks are noisier than others. The incubator fans are usually pretty loud and cover the chirping of less aggressive chirpers. Come to think of it, maybe that's why the chicks are happier in the brooder than the incubator. Maybe the fan noise bothers them, or maybe they're...

The top egg has an embryo, bottom one is probably nonviable but keep it for now.

I don't know exactly. It could be a meat spot. What color egg were you candling when you saw it? My darker brown eggs make it look like a dark spot.

I don't see much in incubated eggs until day 4 and don't really candle before day 7, so I don't get discouraged.

Maybe it would be too much work but... if you could get a large box and cover/paint the insides with something black then you could have your own mini dark room. I take off the lid and candle them all at once. Like it's been said eggs drop easily. It seems like they become extra slippery out of...

I also think humidity depends on the incubator. In my cabinet incubator I incubate at 50% no problems, but my tabletop incubators at 35% except for my styrofoam incubators which are closer to 25%. 😳

I leave my vents open on my incubator. Why did you decide to incubate at 50% humidity? I'd do 35-45% max. @MGG @CluckNDoodle vents? humidity for NR360?

@Iluveggers Good fresh eggs should not have any visible air cells, or extremely small ones.

Pointy side down, fat side up. You can candle just to look for cracks in the eggs. If there are cracks, cover them with finger nail polish or liquid bandage before you put them in the incubator.

I would put a towel under your incubator, to retain heat. It would help if it covered an area of the table where you will be candling. That way if one slips out of little fingers it falls right onto the fluffy towel. ;)

@MGG @CluckNDoodle will a NR360 malfunction if you don't add water to your running incubator, without eggs in it?

That's a good question... my RCom says to never let it run dry or it will malfunction. We need a NR360 person to answer that.

I would calibrate it in the classroom before the break, because every environment is different. Can you leave it on the week you won't be there? It doesn't really use that much electricity.
