That is called an internal pip. The other is an external pip. The white sack is called a membrane since you want to find out the correct words to use.

I am not seeing any leakage on this bird. I have a Lavender cockerel that has silver leakage - it is very obvious because his neck and saddle feathers are lined in a lighter color. Leakage is not on the wings, unless its red.. and I didn't see any red?

I was told that the AM birds that grew their tails faster were girls, the ones with no tails were boys. I only had one boy who went against that theory (and also wing feather sexed as girl) - so I would guess top boy, bottom girl. Your other one with no tail - boy also. I didn't have any...

Mine started at 7 months, but were born the end of February and started laying in September. If they don't start soon I would guess you wouldn't see eggs until Spring, like Pips & Peeps said. Mine are from John Blehm. Different lines may take different times too.

I think it would be a bad idea if you are going to hatch chicks. No problem if you are going to eat the eggs. Lavender and Blue are two different genes, and when you mix the two you can get both splash and lavender at the same time - and they can be very hard to tell apart as chicks. The...

I remember when you got the eggs, and how happy you have been to connect with your son. A few tips that might help. Inside the garage will probably be better as far as lighting. Put them in a dog kennel cage if you have one - or something open like that. Have it put on a sturdy table for...

Well I am enough of a newbie that I recognize do not know what looks good and what doesn't on the Lavenders yet, just got my first birds this year and I am still learning. But I would say I know something about Splash and EEs, enough to know the bird in question didn't look like a Splash - but...

Thanks Donna, I wasn't sure if he looked like a Splash or not. I have a Splash Copper Marans and he has red on him, but its not that widespread and he has much more white than black. The Splashes I have seen that came out of a Blue/Black/Splash breeding have no red, I think it would show up...

Hello there. This group is for the Lavender colored Ameraucanas, but I am glad you are enjoying your birds. Sorry you lost your boy to a fox, it is always tough to loose birds. Your rooster does not look like a splash to me - my understanding is that Splash will have no red or gold...

Ok, back by popular demand with updates... here it is - new version 1.2... That is an interesting thread. My mom is a visual learner, trying to explain something when she can't picture it in her head never works.

A while back somebody posted a picture chart for breeding Blues. At that time I said I wished there was a chart like that for the Lavenders. Well, I was messing around with that chart today (to put in the number of Blue genes on the birds and I thought - Why don't I make one for the Lavenders...

Thank you chrissyr He was the reason I came on BYC. I bought him as a "Bantam Americana" from a Hatchery - and he was nothing like what I expected. I wanted to know what he was - and what that color was. I find it beautiful too. I never did find out what he was - he is probably a...
