So true. I have Marsh Daisy and China Game (Toni-Marie Astin line) as well as Birchen Marans and Cream Legbar. But then again I think I am up to like 15 breeds right now. That's not including the projects like Ayam Cemani/Cream Legbar and Ayam Cemani/Marans crosses.
I actually think more focus should be on the size of the roosters and less on the hens. However, it seems that there is always a correlation between the size of the roos and the size of the hens. I don't want to see the hens as large as the Bielefelder hens, as they are a little too large and...
But I am already seeing CCLs that are food hogs. My GFF CCLs eat more than all but 1 of the 12 breeds I have. So I think the food efficiency is not true, in my experience.
The only breed that eats more is the Bielefelder.
I am well aware of other autosexing breeds. I already raise 12 different breeds, including Bielefelders. I don't breed for profit but instead to improve the breed itself. To your point about needing more breeders, I have already given away CCLs for free and will continue to do so to help...
I never said anything about creating hybrids and calling them CCLs. I am using birds purchased directly from GFF and breeding with dual purpose in mind. I may also import additional unrelated to GFF Legbars.

Thank you. Most of us are not hatcheries that will kill extra cockerels by the thousands. We raise the extra cockerels for meat birds. Therefore having a larger size makes the breed (or at least the cockerels) more useful.
I think it would be less confusing to rename the laying only version to another name. That way people know that they are getting a single purpose bird. The Crested Cream Legbar name could stick with the dual-purpose version.
I think everyone should pursue whatever version of the breed that...
I will be working on my own draft SOP that focuses on Cream Legbars as a dual-purpose instead of just be a layer breed. It's too bad that just a few individuals think that they get to control the future of the Cream Legbar breed. It should be an open discussion amongst CCL breeders.
