I haven't posted in a LONG while here, my original brooder featured MANY pages ago is still usable but I needed something to grow out some chickens in over the winter, that could not yet go into a coop... so here they are.. believe it or not there are 19 almost 3 week old chicks in here... it's...

Here is our brooder #2, a dumpster find!
We used a dog crate brooder, and i would again, but it was difficult to access the chicks without getting "in" there myself... so here's what were using for our next two clutches... It's a former toddler bed.

bad? I can't agree with that... traditional maybe... but I suppose there has been a lot of learning over the years and these BYC folks just want everyone to know there is a safer alternative, like towels etc. I used newpaper as well, my chicks are fine too, as did the breeder I got...
Here's our temporary brooder area/chick habitat!
Initial Setup - Large Dog Crate opening up to yard made with some old wood & an old closet door.. the whole assembly wrapped in plastic hardware cloth. Located on our screened porch, so it has 2 scrap pieces of wood blocking in their area...
