Here is our brooder #2, a dumpster find!
We used a dog crate brooder, and i would again, but it was difficult to access the chicks without getting "in" there myself... so here's what were using for our next two clutches... It's a former toddler bed.

Here's when he brought it home:

And AFTER

Plastic hardware cloth hot glued on all windows. It was missing a 'door' on the side so we used cardboard to cover the gap.

and with the big "window" open for access

I would have never thought that that could be used as a brooder and is looks like it works well too.

I am a newbie- and this forum has been great! Thanks to everyone that shares. I hope someday to contribute. I hope to get my chicks after vacation in August so I can spend some time with them.

Thanks to everyone!

Here is my temp brooder for when the chicks first hatch:

It depends on the number of chicks to the hatch as to how long they stay in this one.

Here is the larger brooder out in the back barn grain room that they move into out of the fishtank one:

If you have any farms around you, try there. That is one that no longer holds water so, I put it to use as a brooder. Many farmers have to replace a tank or two every year and have old one around. I know we do!
