I’m sorry if what I said came off as offensive. I’m just a little tired of people saying he needs a hen and he shouldn’t be a house chicken ect.
We have seen he is happier and healthier with his mama and we should just leave it there.
The breeding is instinct, and since he doesn’t have a real...
Uggg here we go again.
She let him try out living in a real flock and he didn’t do well there, probably would have died if she hadn’t brought him back home. I think he won’t care and is just happy to be back “home”.
I honestly thought she would die so many times. But she didn’t and I think they can sense our will to save them, and our love for them! Believe me, I cried a lot when she wasn’t doing well.
this is my
when I first got her. she hadn’t eaten in a few days probably, she was having trouble with her beak and also the other chickens were trying to kill her. She was hiding in a small area the other chickens couldn’t get to.
This is her today.
**for anyone wondering why I let her starve...
Yes! When I had to deal with flystrike in my pullet, I had to cut her butt feathers to make sure the poop didn’t stick to them. They have fully grown back now.
I think you could use a B complex vitamin too, but I’m not positive. You could open a thread in the emergency/injury’s area if you feel concerned enough. Is he eating and drinking well? Any more throw ups?
Aww poor Hei Hei!! Poor little guy. I just caught up with the thread and I have a chicken that threw stuff up too! Since she is a cross beak, she was eating watery mash, and she’d get too much water and throw it up. If Hei Hei was being chased away from the food, he may have just been drinking...
Why am I focusing here? Becuase I’m a teenager and this is where I can help at the moment. I have had personal experience with having a solitary chicken and most people have not. Said chicken also couldn’t walk and defeated the odds to walk two months later. That’s why I’m here. To share about...
I say and mean this politely.
You don’t know he’s unhappy! Everyone is assuming he is becuase of an unconventional housing situation, ONLY becuase he is a chicken. His owner has said he isn’t unhappy.
There are other animals that are more needy and unhappy right now then him. Imagine a large...
I honestly think the humping is just instinct. Not unhappiness. I understand the love a human can have for a chicken, most people don’t, and I know it would break my heart if I had to get rid of mine. Unless he acts depressed, KEEP HIM! If he had hatched somewhere else he probably would have...
@Hei 20
Most of the posts I’ve read are assuming your roo isn’t happy. The humping could be just hormones, he IS a teenage male after all. Does he seem depressed? Lay in one spot or not eat well? How much time does he get with you each day?
You could set up the balcony with a box of dirt for...
