Congrats on the hatch! I only had one coro sussex pullet & she was stand-off-ish at first. She calmed down a lot when she started laying. Sadly, she died due to excessive heat when only 18 mo old. It's been a few years now, and I still miss my big beautiful hen. I broke down & bought some...

Wish I lived in your area! You're very lucky to have these beauties. I only had one CO, but we really loved her.

Mail doesn't always make sense. The best hatch on shipped eggs came from NC. The breeder dropped them off at the PO on her end & wrote: "Hold for pick up" with my PH# on the label. All went well, some usual wiggly air cells, & 80% hatched!!!! That was 3 years ago. I requested the seller to...

AWWWW! Congrats on finally getting your Coro Sussex! Your story sounds like mine. I got shipped eggs from a man in KY. The air cells were detached & rolling when they arrived, but 6 developed, 4 made it to lock down, and one hatched. I thought male because the chick had a very pink, then...

I'm not sure about what that particular mix will look like. If you breed mixes & try to sell them, you'll only get a few dollars a chick. Perhaps an extra dollar if they make fun colored eggs. If the goal is just to have fun & see your fav hens have offspring, you have nothing to lose to try...

We hatched ours from shipped eggs.(Honestly it was the only way we could afford to get some.) The PO scrambled most eggs, but one lucky girl hatched. When she was younger I thought for sure she was male because she had a pink comb. It was quite small, though. Thankfully, I sent pics to the...

I only had one. Very sweet-natured, loving, gentle, & pretty. Although easily the largest hen I owned, she was at the bottom of the pecking order.

Didn't know there was one. My Coro Sussex was a giant. Bigger than my LF Orpington Rooster!

Thanks. Her mom (a pure Coro Sussex) was the same size. In fact, she was slightly larger & heavier than my English Orps. I think the Sussex breeder had an imported bloodline, because I've never seen any as large. I bought the mom as a fertile egg.

We hatched a few Coro sussex hen x lav orp roo eggs. They chicks simply looked like lavender orpingtons. My son decided that one was HIS, so we now have a pet chicken. She's probably useless for breeding, but has a winning personality. She's a bit too much chicken for our little guy, but...

Looks kind of tall & thin. If young, then my guess is male based on the shape. (My hen was kind of rounded.) I'm not an expert, but the general Sussex thread may have someone there that can help. Make sure to include age. That matters...

Sorry I didn't see this 'til now. If you're still not sure, send a pic to the breeder. EVERYONE - including me - thought mine was a male. I was about to give it away until I asked the breeder. Her comb was small, but very pick/red starting at 4/5 weeks old. He said his line had brighter...

Mine seemed to take forever, over 8 months - but it was also mid winter when she started.

My only CS turned out to be a female. I was torn on the gender for over 18 weeks! (The comb was rather pink/red, but so very small. The breeder helped answer the gender question. His line got comb color early, but the male combs were much taller.) I have heard that males get the lav...

Wow. I didn't know that. How did the orig Coro Sussex get the lavender color? Does it work like most Blues where you can get blue, black, or splash or is it something entirely different?
