The one I used (man I miss my ECO 20!) was one meant for a lizard habitat. I got it at Petsmart for $20 and mounted it with the included Velcro to the side of the incubator. It never showed the right temperature there, since the sides are always a bit cooler than where the heat is blowing...
Remember, always turn an odd number, it keeps the chicks from staying on one side too long! How has everyone been? This thread has grown in my absence! Been busy with the farm and, well, you know, summer sucks my time.
This summer I used my ECO like crazy, I hatched quails to release on my...

Remove the dry felt, go to Wal-mart and get some of that shelf liner with the holes in it and use that. Do you have your felt wicking the liquid from the reservoirs up? That is very important.
I hatch mine right in the incubator, I take the fluffies out every 6-12 hours or so, and spritz with water after to keep that humidity up. That way the later hatchlings get more room. I have mine STUFFED right now, I managed to get enough cool eggs to be able to not use the bars and just set...

I'd like some new friends! Can you send or post a picture?
Next time I pack it full, I'll take lots of pictures to show you how I do it. Look for pictures on December 11th, that is the next time I plan on hatching, for the New Years Day hatch.
But really, it isn't that difficult, if...
^^^^ These as in the eggs? Because the design is meant for you to just turn the whole incubator back and forth. Unless maybe you purchased it without the bars? As for anyone having trouble with the wire brackets/bars, cardboard and felt are your friends, my friends.
Yay for hatching in ECO's! I love the little thing, I am going crazy waiting for the New Years Hatch, that is like, over a whole month before I get to start saving eggs to hatch. TORTURE!
I grab them at 6 hour intervals if I have a lot, and just leave paper towels hanging out of the water canals to ensure the humidity climbs back up. Next time, I shall use felt, as was suggested in this thread. ^_^

Thank you! I was too paranoid about my eggs falling down before I dared to try it without asking a more experienced hatcher. lol.
As long as they are good and secure in their bars, they will be just fine. I watched mine terrified that first day, clutching my husbands arm because it...
Just tilt the whole thing, that is why it has that lovely shape! The cradle tilts it amazingly far, back and forth, I was watching it and thinking, "Dang, I could have just tilted it a few times a day back and forth like that myself and saved some money!"

It's so easy with this bator, the main thing is to sit on you hands for awhile before you candle!!
I do like to put that rubber shelf liner on the bottom of the tray before I go to lockdown. Helps keep the mess down some!!
ETA: Oh and lots of luck for a sucessful hatch!!
Thanks...
Hooray for babies! I'm already itching to hatch more, but with 2 broodies on eggs, I need to have the incubator ready in case anyone decides to quit sitting, or abandon their nest after 2 hatch.
Mine was right at a hundred when I got it, through a lot of cussing and tiny little wrist movements with a tiny screwdriver, I got it adjusted to right below 100, and went with that. Mine hatched perfect and on time!

I'm going to do that next time, because one of my babies ended up with splay leg and I had to make a Ban-aid hobble. Not that it isn't cute waddling like a duck in it's little hobbles!

your 'bad'??
seems like a good percentage. this is your first run in your new eco 20, too! Your 'good' i would say!
poor kiddo, only 36................
36 is so not enough! So I have two broodies I sneaked eggs under too, if they hatch that will add 10 more. Just ten, a nice round...
5 out of 6 actually, my bad, but the one that didn't hatch had a flat beak and no horn to use to hatch, but it tried hard, it would have been 100% if it could have gotten out.
Mine all hatched Monday, so I need to grow out some of the ones that are indoors before I hatch more. 36 is not enough! My incubator is so lonely. (I totally stuck eggs under my broody though.)
Awesome MissLady! Welcome to the ECO Octagon Club!

Congrats!
Just a tip...I use pieces of felt instead of paper towels, and the felt holds the moisture WAY longer than the paper towels. Thanks to my brilliant husband, I also use a pipette during lockdown to reach down through the...
4 out of 6 hatched last night, I had a little trouble getting my humidity up, had to pop off the top and lay 2 paper towels in the water channels, with them trailing out to lay on the bottom of the incubator, and that shot it up beautifully! Looking at the 6 tiny eggs I have hatching, I realize...
I have noticed that thermometer shows temperature change QUICK, have you noticed if you take the lid off to candle it drops like, 5-10 degrees, and then pops back up to 99.5 in a jiffy? Sensitive little bugger!
