    Twin chicken development

The little chick is still fighting and seems a bit stronger today and wailing her head avout but is still not that great. Her fur isn't fluffing up even after 3 baths but has managed to open one of her eyes half way. I am trying to keep her comfortable as much as I possibly can.

    Twin chicken development

Okay, I have done as you suggested. She is in a cup in the incubator surrounded by a damp cloth. There is only a small amount of yolk so hopefully she will be okay. I will update when something changes. Thanks

    Twin chicken development

Thanks everyone for the good wishes! Also tha k you for the link, it was a good read. I left the chicks last night with half of the shell open and thought they might be able to make their own way out at that point and raised the humidity and let them be. This morning they hadnt progressed. So...

    Twin chicken development

I was just alittle confused by this, because surely unless they were identical twins, they would have to have their own blood network. So if they shared an inner membrane, then half of the blood in the membrane would belong to the other chick?

    Twin chicken development

I cannot, I hope that is not a bad sign for the other, but I hear its common for one to not make it in twins. Quick update: I was looking at the exposed membrane and the blood had gone. I began to peel back the membrane and have managed to uncover all of the membrane covering the chick from...

    Twin chicken development

The membrane was white but I dampened it, should I stop doing that? Yes this is the double yolk egg. I will compare pictures now.

    Twin chicken development

Thank you for everbodys help so far. The membrane still has lots of vessles with blood in them so I wont be able to look at anything more than I can see from the surface. Just so that everybody is clear of what I am talking about, I have attached a picture of the egg. You can see a piece of fur...

    Twin chicken development

Actually, I think this chick is not positioned properly. I was just looking at that guide again which said to remove a small section off shell and oiter membrane until you can see the beak. I had broke the shell and outer membrane but didnt locate the beak. I have just had another go at finsing...

    Twin chicken development

I candled the twins this morning and theres still life, so I have pipped the egg near the beak in the air sac and it has been tweeting! Im wetting the membrane every couple hours. Does anybody know when I should begin to try and get them out? I don't think they wohld have enough room to zip...

    Twin chicken development

Another update: Both chicks are doing well. The second chick was very sticky and its feathers were not fluffing up so I rinsed it in a bowl of water at 37c and dried it with a hair dryer and it looks much better and seems happier/crying less. I candled the eggs again. I believe the single egg...

    Twin chicken development

The chick hatched this morning. Its looks healthy but tweets loudly more than the previous chick did, who is doing very well. They are both in a brooder now and I am waiting for a sign from the twins and the last egg.

    Twin chicken development

Also before I did anything I could hear faint tweets from the egg. After I pierced the membrane it was tweeting regulary but has since stopped and but opens its beak but doesnt make a sound.

    Twin chicken development

Sorry for not updating sooner. I decided to take a closer look at the pipped egg so I removed it from the incubator and placed it in a damp cloth. I removed a couple pieces of the shell around the pip to get a better look at the membrane and it wasn't pierced and had dried. So I put alittle...

    Twin chicken development

Opon futher inspection it looks like the membrane hasnt been pierced and is trying to get through with its beak. I think the membrane may have dried out.

    Twin chicken development

The other pipped egg is showning signs of life as I can see its beak moving through the membrane.

    Twin chicken development

One of the pipped eggs has now hatched! It seems healthy and alert and is trying to walk around. The other eggs still not showing any signs. There are a total of 4 eggs, 1 which has hatched and three remaining. The humidity is currently at 65% and stable and temperature is at 37.7 Celsius...

    Twin chicken development

Just wanted to update and get some more feedback. So I still only have two eggs pipped and today is now day 22. One egg which pipped has slightly largened the hole and is chirping so seems okay, if a bit slow. The second egg which pipped has not advanced at all and the pip doesn't seem large...
