Do Chickens Really Need a Run?

I agree. A Wood’s coop or other design of an open coop, so to speak. The breeder where I bought my first chicks had several coop/runs for many of her chickens (not her breeders though) that looked to be a permanent chicken tractor. It was basically a partially uncovered chicken run with the...

Do Chickens Really Need a Run?

Truth is, we all have faults, like it or not. But, we don’t all have a sense of humor, and that sucks. And humor is one of the best ways to help with communication. And this world needs introverts just as much as extroverts. We coexist perfectly!

Do Chickens Really Need a Run?

Well dang, I completely read that wrong. And I swear, I’ve had nothing to drink. You’ve definitely got a point; however, when you talk about disease transmission without direct contact, that could still be achieved through wild birds sitting on open window sills. During warm weather all 6...

Do Chickens Really Need a Run?

Having NO run? I wouldn’t think so. Since the birds will be confined in their run with nowhere to escape, the run needs to be carefully predator proofed. And if so, no wild bird would be able to get it

Do Chickens Really Need a Run?

No need to replace, just dump another bag on top and they’ll go crazy again.

Do Chickens Really Need a Run?

Didn’t you know that “well spoken” to some is “sit down and shut up” to others. :lau :lau But I like the way you think. Thank you.

Do Chickens Really Need a Run?

Unfortunately, as with most everything today, people are going to be biased, no matter the subject. I honestly don’t think we (yes, I’ll include myself...just a tad, though ) sit down and actually talk to people for any length of time anymore and that is so sad. It is also very detrimental...

Do Chickens Really Need a Run?

Even though animals require a major commitment on the owners part, I believe they are entirely worth it. I mean, who really needs a vacation? :gig

Do Chickens Really Need a Run?

I’ve been thinking about that and even though I don’t know where you live you might benefit from one of those “Woods” coop, I think they call it. @jthornton and many others here know more about those. It’s kind of an open coop so I think technically it would be very easy to s-t-r-e-t-c-h out the...

Do Chickens Really Need a Run?

You know, that is exactly what the majority of stuff in my run is - leaves - along with pine shavings and a bit of mulch. And, yes, they do love it. You don’t even have to spread the leaves. Just dump them by the bagfuls in there, the chickens will do the rest.

Do Chickens Really Need a Run?

Thank you very much. I love my life and my little farm. Now don’t get me wrong, my life has major mountains and some pot holes thrown in, but my chickens help me get through all that mess, and I wouldn’t change it for the world. But I am more than thankful for my chickens. :love

Do Chickens Really Need a Run?

Drake was a little over 11 years and had several things wrong with him. Poor thing couldn’t even control his slobber! :lau No, really, he always did that.

Do Chickens Really Need a Run?

:thumbsup @Cyprus, I certainly hope this wasn’t directed at my post since it immediately followed it. Never once would I intentionally criticize anyone on their animal husbandry (not simply from something I’ve read on the internet, at least). Please let me know if you feel I’ve unjustly...

Do Chickens Really Need a Run?

Awe, I know. I had to have my poor Drake euthanized on Christmas Eve. He too loved being with the birds. All my dogs do.

Do Chickens Really Need a Run?

Have you ever seen a chicken sunbathe or scratch through a pile of leaves? They dearly LOVE it! My birds free range and I wouldn’t have it any other way. I know the dangers of predation and I don’t like it, but I’m willing to chance it for their happiness. I suppose we have the usual predators...
