Stress in chickens can be a myriad of things. Sudden weather changes, a predator comes through, molting, a new cockerel is trying sow his oats... It doesn't have to be anything all that tremendous. Sometimes even just changing coops and having to lock them in to get hem used to the new digs.
Gracious Casport, I love the avie!
For standard birds....
you want 1/2 a cc/ml. You can put it in the beak if you are squeamish about injecting in the breast. Otherwise, in the breast, alternate sides daily. (Diabetics will know the pain of injecting in the same spot..same as with the bird) If...
When I had an event, I used the duramycin before the birds got to bad. Once I noticed that there was snot, and they were still fairly active and drinking. I used the tylan 50 when they aren't, or I am too slow at noticing. I ended up with birds getting sick last winter, and some it hit harder...
Aureomycin? The other thing you can get is darvet- duramycin. That is 1 tbls per gallon of water, fresh everyday. Now... be sure to clean dried on snot off of beaks too. Good luck.
Really? I did not think about that building resistance... That is good to know. I'll toss from now on when the occasion arises... Which we all hope doesn't.
There is an egg withdrawl period. I think its like 10 days after last dosages. I don't advocate ignoring it, but to each his own. I have eaten the eggs a few days after the last dose... I do feed the eggs back to the birds though during the withdrawl period... Why waste all that protien.
I have sold birds yes. I usually only sell to people who can deal with any problems, have good quarantine practices. If I have something happen in my flock shortly after a sale of a bird, I inform anyone who may have purchased a bird immediately so they can be prepared should it be something...
Exactly. It doesn't have to be a death sentance. It does require more diligence though on your part as well. Like if you are going to a swap or show, go in clean clothes and shoes you did not wear into your birds coops/runs.
Just so you know, I do not advocate culling or advocate treatment...
Yes. I provided a very good link. farmerboy got full out diagnosis confirming MG a CRD, by MSU here in Michigan.
Also those meds I suggested are very good at keeping it undercontrol at the firt sign of problems. I also forgot aureomycin crumbles. It goes in the feed to keep prevent losses...
Ok... quarantine means you do not let any new birds you bring in near your established flock. Build a simple 4x2x2 frame with a solid floor and a top. A large dog kennel will work very well. If the bird is a carrier, it'll show up in that quarantine period usually. When you go to swaps, when you...
First off, I'd like to suggest you check out Farmerboy16's thread, https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/587948/rebuilding-my-farm , He dealt with CRD, found a way to start fresh and continue. It's a longish thread, but worth the read with the info he's provided and the experiment he tried and had...
