Granny and I were talking and I said that I would be taking chicks and fertile Welsummer eggs to Chickstock to sell and would also be putting a couple of smoked chickens in our drawing. She decided that she needed to take birds as well. So she went in her sewing room and a few hours later she...
This year in addition to the smoked chicken for our lunch, and the birds for the drawing, I will have a limited number of smoked chicken for purchase. They will weigh between 5 to 6 lbs when they go into the smoker. The price will be $15 each.
It isn't necessary to bring birds for buy/sell/trade to attend the event. The purpose of this thread to to let folks know what you are looking for or to tell them in advance what you are offering for sale.
Beginning in 1900, poultry breeder Oskar Vorwerk began to create a medium-sized, utilitarian fowl with the belted plumage pattern of the Lakenvelder. The key difference in appearance would be the Vorwerk's dark golden base color, rather than the white of the Lakenvelder. Thus, his chicken is...
I currently have 2 two week old orpington chicks, plus 6 eggs in the incubator due to have on the 21st. I have a Vorwerk hen sitting on 6 eggs that were due to hatch today, plus 13 eggs in the incubator along with 8 Spangled Hamburgs. I p;lan on bringing everything I have. I will also be...
Granny is looking forward to this year's event and she will be sitting just inside the pavillion with the sign in sheet and name tags. Finding me will be easy, just look for the old rooster. Given how old I am, Granny will be real easy to recognize as she is twenty years older.
ChicwannaB, I glad you are coming to Chickenstock. Each year has gotten larger and better and this year I'm sure will be our best one. I will have name tags available at the sign-in table and I will ask everyone to put both their BYC name and their real name on it.
nitefrye, I may have a...
Francheska, this is our 3rd Chickenstock and almost no one knew anyone else at first. Last year more came than the previous year and this year even more have indicated they are coming for the first time. So the number of folks who know each other continues to grow. With everyone sharing the...
Hotwings, that's awfully generous of you. I'm just going to donate a couple of dead chickens to it. I probably will make them a little more appealing by smoking them first.
My old head was starting to molt quite seriously so I got the remainder chopped off. Wrong thing to do with this downturn in temperatures. I think my head has frozen.
My single bantam orpington has been a steady layer all winter but the hamburgs and the vorwerks haven't manage to squeeze out a single egg. However with Chickenstock still 108 days away I should have eggs and chicks by then.
