I also found this, which seems less complicated, but also still nonviable for small producers

possible (once current AI restrictions are lifted) but complicated! See https://www.gov.uk/guidance/export-livestock-and-poultry
I have Swedish flowers, Araucana, Norfolk Grey, Welsumer, and Barbezieux, and their hybrid offspring (SFH over the others). What do you have?
I haven't processed any (and don't intend to) but they did take a long time to fill out; more like 6 months for the hen, and a year for the cock though he was set back badly by a fox attack.
they were bred for flavour, so the other characteristics were less important to the breeders. My hen is flighty, but the cock not; he's lovely actually.
I doubt you'd get that combo if you crossed them!
Obelix can fly up a couple of feet, but not more. He is significantly larger than my heritage breeds, e.g. here next to a mature Welsummer hen and a SFH roo (Barby hen behind).
He is a very gentle soul, and does not bite, even when his claws are being clipped!
hello @charleston - welcome to BYC :frow
I am not growing to get a desired meat weight, just strong healthy birds. They had chick feed and fermented whole grain as chicks, plus whatever they ate while foraging dawn to dusk, and since then forage + the fermented grain feed I give all my flock...
I lost a 3-day old chick to unknown cause too, and I wondered if it had been trampled. Slow growing is good for an unusually large breed, otherwise they risk leg weakness. My 7 month cockerel is now practically twice as tall as the Swedish Flower hens, and takes frequent rests during the day...
@BreezyBre how are your little barbies doing? Have you noticed anything to indicate gender of chicks yet? There are two patterns of wing development on mine, but that may be irrelevant (they'll be 3 weeks old tomorrow). I can find very little info online for this breed (understandably, as they...
four made it to hatch, and have spent the last two lovely warm days exploring the garden with mam; they look like little penguins! Apparently the fluffy white and grey bits get replaced with all black when the feathers come in - pity!
