I take them out as needed too. Since quail don't have the same reserves as other poultry they need to be removed as soon as they are dry. I have been fine doing this, and I also do this with chickens.

Well I had one start to zip, but then he died. At least I know they are still alive after today's temperature spikes. This chick wouldn't have made it even if it did hatch. There was blood, and the yolk was not absorbed.
