American gamefowl are cool, but probably not what I’m going to end up with. I’ll need roosters who can get along in a bachelor pen.

That’s exactly what I plan to do. Though it will be a while before I can get more chickens, as my current flock has Marek’s.

At this point, chickens like RIRs from hatcheries are completely different breeds than heritage RIRs.

Exactly. Of course, it isn’t going to happen to every chicken, but with those breeds it’s so much more common. Aren’t heritage breeds most old breeds, though? American Orpingtons are actually different than the common hatchery type. Hatchery type doesn’t represent American or English orps.

They look more like American orpingtons.

    That’s true.

Yeah, I was referring to self buff (color of buff Orpingtons). Buff in brahmas, for instance, is buff columbian. That’s the miracle of cross breeding. And why, in my opinion, the best looking chickens are the mutts. :D

You may hate buff chickens, but do you hate these? (Not my pictures) Buff x black Buff x blue Buff x barred https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/mixed-breed-photo-reference-please-read-guidelines-in-first-post-before-adding-content.629715/ :D
