Hi All. On a gross note. I inadvertently sold some eggs to one of my Mom's customers that had an almost ready to hatch chick inside one of them. I am usually so careful to mark and mark again the eggs I let the broody's sit on. And I usually either do blue eggs or white eggs so I can again...
Just noticed the bottom of my post listing my critters. I guess I will have to update that! Horses and cats stayed the same, up to 5 dogs now, 4 goats, and 50 chickens! I have lots of my own home grown added to the list, but I purchased some buff and white orpingtons, some speckled sussexes...
Hi All! It has been such a long time since I was on this thread. I have to say I am delighted to see so many familiar names! I have lots of catching up to do, which I will love doing, but I look forward to becoming more active in this thread again!
All my critters are doing well with this...
Hi all! Catching up. Lots going on with you all!
I am hatching today! So far, 1 out, 1 I can see the beak, and 4 pips out of 11 that developed. I only set blue eggs I have been trying for more blue egg layers and hopefully there will be some pullets in the mix. I am actually hatching...
Found some on Valley Vet Supply. It will be here on Friday. I hope no more show signs before then. I will be treating the whole flock though. Thanks for the info.
Thanks for the info W4W and Cheeka. Of course I have another one with the same sounding wheezing, and this one has the bubbly eyes. i will be looking for the Denagard ASAP! Do you know off hand if you have to hold back on the eggs and for how long?? (not that either of those two are laying...
Cheeka, they should be named "The Magnificent Seven"! What gorgeous birds!
Welcome HW! My advice to anyone new to this thread, is read the whole thing!!! A wonderful group of posters and so very knowledgeable! And did I mention funny!!

Oh, and I got 26 eggs today! Out of 30 Layers! Finally the numbers are picking up! But I have 12 dozen sitting in my fridge since I have been home bound and not selling them on my way to visit my parents. I Have to get selling!
Thank you for your kind words Cheeka and W4W. I will take some pictures of the EE's tomorrow when the weather is better. We have had terrible thunder storms all day with tornado warnings up until 11 pm tonite. With the terrible weather I decided to keep all the chickens free ranging so that...
Oh yeah, I am up to about 21 eggs (out of 30 layers) a day. Don't know where the other slackers are laying or if they are laying. It is like an easter egg hunt here, daily.
Hi Everyone! Welcome to the new posters, the new puppies, and the new chicks!
It has taken me 3 days to catch up with this thread! Thanks for all the info and mostly the laughs! I had surgery 2 1/2 weeks ago and I can finally get out to do all my farm chores (horses, chickens and...
Janet, So sorry for all the health issues your family is dealing with. As others said, take care of your self too!! Spring is right around the corner, just not close enough! Keep up the good spirits!
Cheeka-OMG the snow! That is why I moved to Florida! I could't take it anymore! Sorry...
Thanks for the recipe Cheeka!
W4W-I think you are right about the chick being an Ancona. I looked at lots of baby pictures of that breed, and that is what my one remaining one looks like. With my luck, the one that survived is a male! I could see, (kinda), how the adult Ancona could be...
W4W- thanks for the info. I will look them up too. I need to do more research on breeds before I buy any more chickies!
Lindz-That is going to hurt later! I love the cat in all your chicken pictures! I have one that loves to be out with the chickens as well. If one approaches, she rolls...
Yay for eggs! I got 17 today! They are getting pretty consistent with over 15 every day!
Here are the pictures of the chicks (and the ducks) So far, I have lost 4 of the chicks I just got. Not sure if the day was too much for them coming to the class and maybe a draft or too much handling...
DanaeRose! This is the best thread eva! Sorry, I am from Boston. When you have time, try to start from the beginning of this thread. It is hilarious! Lots of great people and great advice (don't listen to Roger's advice though, well, maybe about PIE).
CL-Love the pictures!!
OK and...
Help! I can't seem to stop buying/hatching chicks!!! I took a class offered by the University of Florida today. "Chickens 101". Great class, very informative. One of the speakers brought chicks Luckily most of them were bantams and since most of my chickens free range, I thought they would...
Hi Everyone! It took me two days to catch up on all of the posts. You have been very busy. So my hatch didn't go so well either. I put up 12 eggs, I only ended up with 6 that hatched. I too had two fully developed chicks not hatch. Out of the 6 that hatched, the two CL chicks both had...
It is great to see egg numbers on the rise! The real first sign of spring. I know our cold is nothing compared to everyone in the northern parts of the country, but I moved to Florida to be warm! Just like the pictures you see on FB with the Floridians in their overcoats and scarves, and the...
Thank you for all the words of wisdom!
I did check SOME of the eggs for fertility prior to hatching. Must have missed the AM eggs. I will be checking them out in the future! The CL/AM eggs that hatched, the chicks have the splayed legs. Eggs were almost an XL, so I think there was enough...
