Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

Gossy went back on those eggs sometime after I left her in the dark... she hasn't ejected a single one. I don't know if any can hatch, but she's the pro, right?

Julius is walking quite well, not running... but walking is good. another 4 weeks and he should be good as gold.

my brain is full of fog this morning. I wish I had the day off to clear it. off to work I go!

I have some nice pics to share from yesterday. I'll get to it later. have a wonderful Saturday everyone

The eggs still might hatch. I mistakenly removed a hatching egg from under a Serama, and it sat out on the counter all night. Saw the #6 on it the next day and put it back under her, even though it was cold. Hatched no problem.

Are you still on anitbiotics for the lyme's? That's got to be pretty tough on the system.

No interest in your house? Is it still on the market?

Show a pic of Julius too. I can't remember how he got hurt.

Today we are driving up to see the inlaws for the boys' birthdays, which are both this month. I hope it's not too hot. We've been at or over 100° most of the week, and it's finally cooling down, but tends to be hotter up north. They have ac though!

Up North on the West Coast also requires going inland, over mountains and away from the Pacific Ocean. Redding and Red bluff are very hot and are usually 5 to 10 degrees hotter than Woodland.

It can be 65 in San Francisco and 110 in Redding on the same day.

Wishing for Wings knows this, but most of the World does not. Driving two hours from my house can go from horribly hot to needing a sweater!

That's the truth, Ron! Hubs and I used to live just south of SanFrancisco, right on the coast, in Pacifica. Fog every day during the summer with highs around 65° but I could drive over the hill and be in 85° in less than 10 minutes. It's all about the microclimates!

We had fog this morning here, so I am very happy. 5 days of 100 degrees was killing me!

Sorry, Cheeka. Lol! My phone finally recognized your name!
Bonnie Tyler is thinking of brooding. She spends too much time in there for her to be laying.
Sturgis tripped over my Harley boot last week. He was doing better day by day. Now he's at a standstill. I think it's the jumping off the bed and couch. I don't see a point in X-rays. He hurt his legs so many times in the beginning, I know what is hurting (knee, hip or ankle) by his behavior. This is his ankle, and the pain is minimal. I can move it and push on it. He walks on it some.
Anyway! So I might get a broody soon. Hmm... To hatch or not to hatch. I wonder what you guys think. :)

HATCH!!!! Hi MC!

not to freak Scrambles out any further,,, I got several pics of this beauty two days in a row. first day, I didn't notice the web or her, and I touched her. glad I didn't squish her

one of my customers gave me a giant zucchini, so I julienne'd it and made a Pie with sardines. omg. serious Pie

I found Portia's favorite treat! she was eating 4 strands at a time from the bowl!

Julius! standing tall and walking well, even a bit quickly already. but he's in no way ready to rejoin the menagerie. he needs a few more weeks of good healing and if those eggs hatch, he can be reintroduced with them and all will be perfect.

she's determined.

leave it to Wilma to claim an entire bowl for herself...

it was a very slow commute this morning. pea soup all the way, then we had enough of a break so I was able to collect all the dried cut grass - there was a lot of it!! stuffed 300 gallons in bags for use over the winter, then it started to rain. I kept checking on Gossy, she's fine and dry... but it's raining too hard for me to want to move all the rest of the chickens. I think, because it's going to rain all day tomorrow, I will make the move in mid morning. I know for a fact that the back pen will be perfect and happy and need zero supervision. so I can sit in the dome for a few hours and keep Fannie from wreaking havoc and jumping everyone. I will let them work it out, but I will step in if necessary. and it probably will be. Fannie vs Blu or Betty or Rose or all three could be bad.

W4W, I don't know exactly how he got hurt. he was always first on the roost, with Junebug, I went out early one morning and found him, hidden behind the kennel, next to chain link, cowering and unable to stand.
I checked him over carefully and it seemed he didn't have a broken leg, and he had no wounds. so... I trimmed his foot feathers because he was stepping all over them when he would try to move, that's when I could see how his back toe would snag, 2 of the front toes would curl weirdly and her would fall on his sweet face. I tried splints and tape and it didn't help, so I trimmed some more feathers and isolated him, at first, with Junebug because they are so bonded, but that was clearly not meant to last after a couple of days, he wasn't healing... Junebug wasn't doing anything deliberate to be mean... but would step on him... since he's been alone (maybe a week) he's been doing remarkably well. he was even on the roost this morning! that really surprised me, but he should have remembered his wings anyway... I love that little guy, and he'll be fine.

Her Halloween costume. It's warm and cozy, so she wore it outside. So glad I bought her shoes. She didn't have any on when she was dropped off. I'll give them (aunts/grandma) the benefit of the doubt. It was only overnight, and no one else brings her outside.

I don't like the picture, but I love her. So, here is an outfit my mother picked up. The dress is too short, but tights will cover her bottom if I do take her out in it.
Have I mentioned how I hate trying to decide what will fit? I'm sure I have! Some 12 -month clothes fit like 24, and some 24 fit like 12! Grrrr!

Cute pics MC! Yes, the clothes and sizes do not always match up do they? I always went big so they could grow into them. My first son had tons of clothes for 12 months and 2T, which I thought would be wonderful when my second son was born. But he grew through both of those sizes in a couple of months, and I ended up having to shop anyway for the sizes in between. Good thing I didn't have a girl, the clothes are too cute to resist. Would have spent waaaay too much.

Hi All. On a gross note. I inadvertently sold some eggs to one of my Mom's customers that had an almost ready to hatch chick inside one of them. I am usually so careful to mark and mark again the eggs I let the broody's sit on. And I usually either do blue eggs or white eggs so I can again make sure. The odd thing is, I couldn't for the life of me figure out where that egg went. I had three broody's sitting. Each one was down to two eggs each. Two hens hatched one each, and the second one was dead when i checked on them later. (I should have checked sooner!). The next day, the third hen's egg was open (hers were about four days later than the others), and dead and the other egg was missing. I must be suffering from half-timers these days. I always check and inspect the eggs I pick up daily and clean the dirty ones. You would think I would notice the big black X and the date on it. Geez.

Here is also the chick I was talking about. Sweet little guy. hasn't crowed that I've heard. Yet. He is about 4 months old. Bugs me though, I ordered 16 pullets and they throw in a surprise chick. I don't know why they would think I needed a cockerel!

Here are the newest additions to my pack!

Lexie, the mix is a rescue. No idea of her breeding, but she has very short legs. Kinda hyper, but very sweet! Bugsy is the toy poodle. I just fell in love with him! He too is hyper :)

And last but not least, here is most of the flock!
