5 out of 6 guineas are hatched. The last looks like either the yolk busted or it was infected. It was full of yellow goop.
Hatch season 2016 is officially over!
Good luck everyone.
Both chicks are out! Both are Mille Fleur, it looks like. The guineas are drawn down and chirping. My humidity is good I seem to be having temperature issues (too low).
I decided to candle my guineas just now and surprisingly they are drawn down and a few internally pipped! I was not expecting them to hatch until next week, though I was uncertain on the actual hatch date since they were eggs I took from a broody right before she was killed. Another OEGB died on...
A lot of people say not to, because of humidity dropping in the incubator, but if you keep it high enough it isn't an issue. I have had chicks roll other eggs pip down, and in any case the chicks are trying to position to hatch in the eggs and don't need someone rolling them all over the place...
That's why I take them out as soon as they're walking well. I know I "can" leave them in but I don't see any reason to. They will dry out quick in the brooder and not be running all over my eggs or any slower chicks.
Another chick seems to have quit on me yesterday. They are out of the turner. Fingers crossed I get the four out and healthy and they are females. These eggs have gone from being a great bargain at 18 for $32 to some very expensive chicks! lol
I know! I have 5 mille fleur / porcelain Old English Game Bantams still going strong. I upped the humidity already though because the air cells are getting way too big. I have a feeling these will be day 18/19 hatches.
I think they should be similar to the color of the eggs they came from, though the father's genes could slightly lighten or darken them.
I only just got my first Marans and read up on the genetics a little because I want to breed them. 90% of the Marans sold around here are black so I wanted to...
Blue x blue = 50% blue, 25% black, 25% splash
Blue x black = 50% blue, 50% black
It's just a matter of chance what you end up with
I was hoping if get one of each but got all blue. I'm just glad i didn't get black, though one is feathering in near black but genetically it's still considered...
