This is my only surviving silkie, stray dog attack. Since then we have reinforced and electrified, so no more dig issues. She is about 4 months old now. Here is here at two months. She has gotten so fluffy but is super light when you pick her up. Like dandelion fluff.

K, you're right. That silver or gold leakage can be a booger. Recessives popping up are irritating sometimes if you aren't wanting them. I'm having to rebuild at this point. Had a very persistent feral dog that took out half my chickens and all but one silkie. I have one splash left. :hit

I agree that you won't know what you will get with one bird being white as it covers up the underlying color but black breeds true, maybe thinking of blue there. Black definitely breeds true.

I have a paint as well. Depending on the white show girl is recessive white or dominant white. If you put him over the paints and if he is dominant white you have a chance at 50% paint depending on what is hiding under the white showgirl. I like the look of the show girls. Hope that helped, I'm...

Thank you, I would appreciate it. I have found chats where people have been looking for them. I think it went out of print in the US but is still available over seas mostly from what I have found.

I was wrong, it was a sneak peak on that web site. What I read I really liked though. I'm having trouble finding a copy. There was a site where you could order some but not to the u.s. I'll have to get the health book too. Just had a friends 6 week old road island white chick all the sudden have...

Hey winterwolfbane, I think my next purchase will have to be David's book genetics of chicken colors. I knew he did the chicken calculator but since googling him have found his other works. Still looking through all the links. It's nice to have something you can hold in your hands and reference...

http://sellers.kippenjungle.nl/page2.html Another site that is stating barring has affect on foot color or lack thereof. Genetics are so interesting. David has done so many studies and they are the easiest to read that I'm seeing. JMO.

This link also talks about the barring gene affecting the shank color and mentions white silkies but didn't elaborate on what they used the white silkies for. They talk mainly on RIR and barred rocks. Very interesting. http://www.genetics.org/content/20/6/529.full.pdf

Thank you both so much for the feed back! I was hoping that I was seeing their faults well. They still have time to turn in to "swans" from their "ugly ducklings". Again thank you so much for the helpful feed back and sharing your experience.

Ok, updated pictures on my birds. They are 6 weeks old, so not fully feathered yet but coming along. I'll put what I see wrong with each bird and will keep a list of what everyone else is seeing too so that I can hopefully work towards a better silkie with each generation. I will eventually...

I'll keep everyone posted as I work towards my goals, and that's what it will be is an ongoing work in progress. I didn't think about the houdan. I don't know much about them so I'll have to look. Thank you so much for the suggested direction. Like I said before, I'm still in the research and...

Thank you. I know my birds aren't perfect. Their crests are crap right now. The feet are looking great though. I need to post new pics as the other ones are from when they were 2 weeks old. They have grown so much. So, I want to breed the bantams TOWARDS the sop, I don't have the perfect birds...
