What a beautiful boy. :love I hope he continues to be a fine rooster for you and your girls, he sure is special. Has he tried to mate any of the girls yet? I’m curious how he’ll continue to adapt with just one wing. As for the thumb, it’s probably just scar tissue (sometimes that can build up...

What a handsome dude. That pattern really suits him. :p Can’t wait to see him fully matured, he’s gonna be such an interesting rooster.

Aww I love his updates. I hope he grows up to be a fine gentleman. :) Not sure about the spur question. As for the seroma I would give it a bit longer to reabsorb. They can take a very long time but it is preferable to draining and having to manage another open sore.

The blu-kote I have comes with a little built in sponge brush on the lid, very much like PVC glue cans, but I think there is a spray. If rooster booster dyes the skin and is a mild antiseptic, then it’s basically the same thing. I’ve never used it. I wonder, if she is a he, how he would manage...

That is so cool, Raptor is a true chicken mascot (don’t let the other hen get jealous). Honestly I would think there’s probably not much more that honey will do but it wouldn’t hurt haha. Be careful with ants/flies outside if they’re really sticky still, wouldn’t want to deal with flystrike or...

Skin will not grow, no. It will probably be light pink shiny tissue that doesn’t stretch much. No feathers either so I guess she’ll either have to wear a permanent modified apron or have regular blu-Kote application.

Are you talking about the piece of cut off bone you can see in your first post? Bones aren’t really connected at all. They’re just ball-and-socketed into each other, cushioned by cartilage, and held together by muscles and tendons. If you make a clean break in your arm, you can still flop it...

That’s so awesome. I just went through this whole post with my husband and we were geeking out together. This post is my new poster girl for betadine/sugar/honey wound care lol. You’re an awesome owner and Raptor is one lucky gal!

I don’t get alerts so I keep forgetting about this thread. But good grief she is too freakin cute! What a champ! It’s so satisfying to see how they’ve come from the brink. You’re amazing :clap:love

I would give it a shot, there’s no harm in trying! Just keep letting us know what works. We’re all learning here :)

That’s really good! That pink color is good, healthy tissue. Just keep up what you’ve been doing. It might scab up and fall off again to a lesser extent. It’s important to keep it clean and moist while it’s in this stage, if you do it right then the scab falling off won’t be this scary next...

I’m so glad Raptor is doing good. I really hope she makes a 100% recovery after all your efforts! Hopefully that blackness will start going away soon. Ideal granulation tissue is light to hot pink. Generally blackness means necrotic, and light yellow or grey is slough (the noun “slough” is...

I think once a day is fine. There’s no signs of infection and it’s not excessively weeping. Reapplying ointment wouldn’t hurt. I can’t say much for coconut oil.. I’ve never used it but if it works then it works. And yes, betadine is very red! Thankfully it doesn’t really stain the skin like...

The animal medical field, haha. I’ve worked in two vet clinics and under a lot more vets (ranging from ranch call-outs to mobile vaccine clinics). In about a year I’ll have my bachelors in biomedical science and then I’ll be applying to vet school.

Good grief, I never got notifications for this! I’ve been wondering for days why you haven’t posted lol. SHE LOOKS AMAZING! I’ll try to answer what you asked but I’m sure I’ll forget something. I don’t think skin grafts will work at all in this case. You need a rich blood supply for...

Well, if it’s a “chicken thing,” I probably won’t guess it, so others will have to chime in. But it could really just be fluid collection from the massive trauma, that would be best case scenario. Does it smell bad? It’s normal for fluid to start collecting, and usually you would put a pressure...

Huh. What an interesting wound! Yes, typically for an amputation you remove to the joint and fold the skin around so it’s sealed. If you had actually sealed it in this case you would have a massive infection, but closing up some skin isn’t a bad idea. Can you post new photos of how it’s looking...
