When I first started, I hated getting rid of any of them! But now I try to look at it as helping others to get the same enjoyment as I get from them. I have many customers that buy for their kids 4H and fairs. I especially love when they say the kids are excited about it all.
I usually try to...
My ducks and chickens don’t live together all the time, but I let my ducks range the yard almost all the time. And I let one chicken pen out each evening, sometimes thru the day. They either avoid each other, or don’t even pay attention to each other mostly.
Took this pic yesterday evening...
:( I sure hope it perks up. My last incubator hatch, I had 2 in ICU for 2 days, didn't think they would make it but they just needed some time. Hopefully this little fella is the same.
Did the person you got them from say if the Muscovy they have is a male or female?
I'd love to see some...
I take them out of the incubator when they are moving around well on their own. Basically when I feel comfortable that they can move closer or away from the warmth, depending on how they feel.
If the navel is a little open, it usually doesn't take long for those to finish closing, so whenever...
I totally missed that on my phone! :hide I was looking at the strings attached, and the navel itself. Hopefully she can tell us more about that. How much it was, and if it was really as bright as the pic shows.
After a long rough hatch, their legs can take bit to get going so I usually give those a day or two to see how they progress, but do what you think is necessary. Sometimes it’s obvious right away that they need something done.
Tractor supply and those places usually sell Nutridrench. Small...
You asked about my birds? I started with black Swedish ducks, but have since switched to Call ducks and lots of bantam chickens. I still have 2 Swedish drakes, and hatched quite a few before I got rid of those girls. Call ducks are perfect for me, as I prefer how tiny they are. They often need...
It can be a stressful experience, and you did a fine job. Slow and cautious. I was happy to be a small part of it, you did the hard part! :)
So cute! Long stressful hatches do sometimes take a while to get their legs under them so hopefully he just needs a little time to recover.
Ooooh...
Sorry I’m slow this evening. I assume that snapped off by now on its own. :D
When that happens, I usually just snip it with scissors, an inch or two from the body, then it will dry up and fall off.
How’s the belly look now?
How is it doing now? I hope ok!
If it’s still the same, you could try a small bowl, like a little butter bowl, lined with dry paper towels to help support it. :fl
Has it rolled out of the shell bottom yet?
It should be fine. No need to rush it now. Its head is out and should perk up. That was tough work, so he'll rest for a bit.
The thing to pay attention to now, is once its away from the shell is to check the belly and make sure its closed up. I see...
Nah, those bleeders don't look like big ones to me. But it looks like you have it open enough now, so I'd just leave it there and wait. When its ready, it will jump right out of there. Hang in there! :fl
