I thought I had a butcher date scheduled for my batch of birds I’m currently growing. I scheduled it 4 weeks ago. Apparently, the gentleman I spoke with that day did not get it recorded and now the locker cannot get my birds in until 2 weeks after my original date. I just found this out today. I...

Fellow Illinoisans, on Tuesday I picked up some cornish cross meat chicks from Petersburg Poultry, and I have to say these chicks are spunky and have plenty of life and vigor to them. I've historically always got my birds from Welp Hatchery, but am strongly considering switching to these guys...

Yup, they will be perfect additions to my flock. I already have an ISA, 2 leghorns, 2 australorps, and 2 barred rocks. I have these girls quarantining in a seperate pen away from my layers currently. I figure I'll live them there for a month or so to shed any cooties they may have and then...

I live in east central Illinois and am looking for 6 started pullets or young laying hens to add to my egg flock. My wife and I have started a business from our poultry and the demand for eggs is greater than we anticipated. If you have started pullets or young hens available please let me know...

I forgot to take pictures last night, but I found this on my phone. YOu can get the jist of it from here. Its a pallet on the bottom with plywood laid over the slats. I nailed 2x4s to the side of the pallet and mad a second tier with ply wood. I wrapped the 3 sides in chicken wire and put...

I will take a picture when I get home. The biggest downside is they are much heavier to move. You cant move them full at all unless you have equipment with pallet forks on it. Another small downside is when that level gets close to empty, you are reaching 48" back to grab the last few birds...

I posted this in the meat birds forum, but thought I'd double up here with maybe some more local advice/sources... I have a batch of 125 cornish cross I'm raising currently. On 10/23 I am taking them to the processor. What does everyone use for Poultry crates? I have a a pallet that I built a...

Get that brooder out! Post office surprised me and they called this afternoon. I don’t understand why USPS offers tracking if they never update it. According to them my chicks are still in Iowa! Oh well. The important thing is that I have my birds and nearly all arrived alive.

its a little over 2 hours one way for me. I’ve been buying my birds through Welp Hatchery in Bancroft, Iowa. The birds have performed great and overall I’ve been satisfied. I have 125 chicks that were supposed to be here today and tracking says it will not be here until Friday. Frustrating. My...

Has anyone here ever used Petersburg Poultry Processing for Cornish Cross chick orders? They sell day old chicks as well as bird butchering. They are a few hours away from me, but I'm thinking about getting my next batch of meaties from them. I think being able to pick them vs. having them...
