    I actually thought it was probably an equipment malfunction, whatever machine crushes the pellets into crumble.

    What't the lot and MFG date? The one I just bought was over pulverized(dusty) and had some gray clumps in it as well as a few unbroken pellets..... seal band printed with (1?)7SEP19 MFI1

    Makes perfect sense, fermenting starts to 'digest' the grains....anything else just rots and pretty quickly. Fermenting other foods for preservation is a whole nother story.

    Yes, Probably not-but maybe, Maybe, Maybe. Grain mites burst forth in much greater numbers during hot humid conditions. I freaked the first time I saw grain mites.....but have learned they are not that big of a deal-unless they get into your kitchen/pantry/mealworm bins. DE will kill them...

    I would imagine the dried stuff is activated once wet and warm (like dry yeast, mosquito dunks, milky spore, etc) inside the chickens gut ....or in the FF bucket.

    Would be ok for the spoon tho? Guess it might depend on what kind of stn stl, there are many grades, some much better than others, and most kitchen utensils don't specify what grade is used.

    Stainless steel should be fine....galvanized is not.

    I've wondered the same....but think of dry yeast. There are many organisms that are stored dry....mosquito dunks come to mind.

    All mine have filters for DSL too, including the rotary-which I keep mostly for the sound of the bell ringer.
