Question on generation...My hen is from eggs from BethG's lav project. Is she 2nd gen, and the new chicks 3rd?
Also, what is the purpose of crossing in the English Orps?
My newest momma, Vivian, just hatched 10 eggs about 3-4 days ago. Poppa is my black split roo, Bert the Conquerer.
She disappeared on me for almost 2 weeks before I found her...thought she was the latest fox victim. Brought her and the eggs in when I finally found her hide out and about a week...

Thanks! I think he'll be a nice start to my Lav. program. My hubby is just fascinated with the green sheen on their feathers.
Just wanted to share some of the Black split Orps I hatched last fall from eggs from BethG and scbatz33.
This is the trio I'm keeping along with a lav pullet. About 8 months old now. One of the younger roos is the 4th one in the first pic.
The other 2 roos and 2 pullets I'm still trying to...
Hi everyone...thought I'd let you see how my project babies are looking. "A" hatch chicks are 4 weeks old today. "B" hatch chicks are 12 days old. I can't believe how fast they're growing. I'm moving all of them to a pen in the garage tomorrow. They've been trading spaces for almost two weeks...
Beth, they're all doing great. They'll come eat out of my hand already and they're peeping little poop machines.
Here's hoping for more girls than boys.
Here's the newest peeps...
B hatch 10-4-10
Here's the older peeps at 18 days...
A hatch 9-17-10
This is the one I'm sure is a boy...
He's already roosting on the edge of the brooder box.
Update on LO hatch from Beth G's eggs...started with 7, 2 quit early, 5 went in lockdown and all 5 hatched last night and today. I have 4 black splits and one lavender.
Between both hatches, older chicks are 16 days old now, I have 2 lavenders and 7 SL. Will get pics when I move them to the...
Beth, day 14 was yesterday. Five are still going, one quit early and one is still showing some movement but hasn't really progressed much since last week. I don't think it will make it, but I left it in anyway. I'll take it out Thursday if it hasn't progressed.
Okay, I've been looking really hard at my peeps. I know they're only 10 days old, so these are just predictions based on my observations...I'm fairly certain one of the SL is a cockeral. He's the biggest of the 4, has really thick legs compared to the other three and seems to be showing a little...

Here's my new peeps, one day old...finally!!
The eggs were scbatz and I have six more from another BYC member whose birds are hinkjc's lines.
Is the lighter one a blue? Splash? Lavender?
