I'm traveling to fort Campbell this weekend, looking to buy hatching eggs Sunday. Would love to find speckled sussex and buckeyes, or another brown or speckled brown layer. I've got super blue egg layers only right now, and I do have hatching eggs if your looking. They're are great, and lay...

Electric fencing and get the men to pee around the perimeter. Good luck though, my husband will not do it, even at night. We have a enclosed run with netting on top. And will add electric fencing when we need it. Double up, do top and bottom.

I have DMRippy's SBEL. They have been wonderful, great hatch rate, and very healthy chicks. I just had a 3 1/2 oz egg from one hen yesterday, such a pretty blue color!

I had my flock tested in march/April 2015, the tester (a state vet) said as long as any hatched eggs or poultry ( bought or added) was NPIP tested we will not be due for 1 year, cost $25.00, with NPIP cert having any untested flock voids your NPIP. No feds at my testing, and Npip is suppose to...

That's truly a bad sight to see, so sorry for your loss. My donkey will sometimes go after the neighbors dog when it gets in the pasture, sometimes not. Dogs usually play the birds to death, meaning not to eat them. Other wildlife avoid our pasture just on smell and sight of the donkey, I have...

I have some 8 month old super blue egg layers, one is doing something quite unusual. Seems she's gone broody- but just in the evenings and at night!? Has this ever happen to anyone else?

My husband went straight to the coop and took the carpet off right then, didn't even have to ask. Gachooks, your chickens are reaching the molt, you should see or start seeing feathers around the coop. Sometimes it looks like a pillow fight. Up they're calcium, and protein and wait. If you are...

Well Donna, found the hen's problem and she is been relocated to the next life. We sent a deceased hen to the KORD lab in Nashville this spring with similar issues, they found moss like material that had blocked her intestines. We did a complete look though the coop and run, several times, and...

This morning around 10:30, when I did my morning chicken chores, my only barred rock was off. Picked her up she has a extremely poopy butt, washed off and applied udder balm, skin seems fine. She's kinda standing around lost, noticed her crop wasn't full like normal after being out all day-this...

I use pinless peepers too. Big help when they resist letting new flock members in.

if the introduction goes awry, try putting them with fencing between them for a few days before the big night. It will allow them to recognize them as part of the flock and cut down on pecking. Be sure to add them to the rest of the flock after dark. let me know how it goes!

I'm dealing with putting a formerly sick hen back into the flock, just waiting for her to gain weight and strength. They will intregate better if you pull out one or two others to be with her now ( or when she is well enough), then move all three at the same time-after at least a week, that way...

So, the hatched SBEL from DMRippy are 17 weeks old and it was time to sell off the extra roo's (the 3 wise men, I know, Ironic) this weekend. We took pictures of the wise men on Friday night to post on CL Saturday morning. I got up in a cleaning mood and my DH went out to empty my vacuum filter...

OK, last year I didn't tell you, so this year- early extra cold, snowy weather for winter predicted. We will begin winterizing next month, mostly because we have 2 out of town weddings in Oct. and can only work on weekends.

I loved my poop boards, but I have too many babies,19 + 9 adults, so we had to change roost designs. I'll get pictures this weekend and post. My sister had food poisoning and I have my 4 year old nephew I'm watching, who is napping at the moment. I only use the PSZ for ammonia break down right...

I did have poop boards with pdz after reading the poop board thread 3 years ago, we redid the roosts to a ladder style in the last 2 months to allow for almost triple the amount of chickens. Now instead of poop boards, we have a poop hammock, I just sprinkle in a little pdz right were the manure...
