Actually I think the oldest SOP is from 2000....they didn't update for 10 years, however they do want to update more often than in the future if they can.
If you can support the APA. that is your best option.
I gave a new copy of the SOP to our local library, so the 4H kids could refer to one when needed. Maybe your local library has a copy, or can get one though their fellow libraries. Would be worth checking out if money is tight.

That's just bad thinking....I've lived in the woods my whole life (I'm 60) and have been raising chickens since I was 19 ...the opossums have been here the whole time...no diseases being spread and never a chicken ate....they have a purpose....some educated in country living should know they...
I realize it seems to be the norm to kill the opossum, I don't understand why?....however I've never had a problem with them and have one named opie that runs around here having fun...they move in and the skunks move out.....and yes I belong to NRA am quite the hunter, and have a CC permit as...
Very true.
One can also join the American Poultry Association. Then you receive the yearbook with connections to the best breeders in the Country as well.
I believe Mark Peterson has the finest and the widest large fowl Light Brahmas and the diamonds are breath taking and worth staring at. He doesn't sell chicks or eggs...only quality young fowl.
I've seen other pics on here...hands down his are superior.

The American Poultry Association sets the standard...you need a copy of the Standard of Perfection that they sell on their website....hope that helps.

Beautiful Evening All...congrats on the good fortune of fresh eggs.
Beef Roast on the grill tonight with sweet corn grilled to perfection ( I like the carmel type) and beer bread toasted to a golden brown. For you folks that tried the beer bread before....simply thickly slice it and butter...
Good advice dak. Actually there are only 3 colors recognized by the standard of perfection. The SOP standard is the true quality breeders try to achieve with the buff, light, and dark brahmas. Those are the 3 recognized colors.

It's my opinion that if the color isn't recognized by the SOP then it's bound to breed less than true 100% of the time....kinda a work in progress yet.

Please be patient and wait to see what nice birds you have.... that's what i would do. Glad i'm not about to worry what week old chicks look like....gosh....they grow and change fast....

Auro25.... I've only worked with standards, however your bantys look real fine. I like the recognized sop colors myself...You should have good results with those.
