we've got bedrock about 4 feet down... I'd have to relocate somewhere with deep dirt. they dig 'em like 60+ feet deep.

I love the idea of having a huge underground home, complete with greenhouse, indoor plumbing, and possibly, if you are a good, GOOD friend, neighbors. Utah shelter systems have some good, basic cheap ($40,000) shelters, and Radius Engineering has amazing underground towns...

You also need a chainsaw, and a flamethrower won't hurt.. well, it won't hurt YOU... stock of antibiotics, incase it's passed bacterially, and an armored vehicle and lots of spare gas... for fueling or burning things...
