I think you quoted the wrong person. This was who asked: @mhoney6943 If you want to post pictures, some of us can tell by visual clues at 7 weeks and certainly at 16 whether they are male or female. And whether they look like a different breed or typical EEs.

The best way to tell is by the color of the egg. Blue or green eggs and it doesn't meet the breed standard for Ameraucana or Araucana = EE. There are some common traits to look for if they were hatchery bred. Where did you get your chicks?

This year's troublemaker award goes to another EE. I went to top off the feeder with a flashlight because we were leaving early the next morning and I didn't want to forget in the morning rush. This crazy chicken jumps down off the roost and heads out the open door. Into the dark, dark night...

What a nice variety! Where did you get them?

It's hard when the cockerels are figuring out how to be a rooster. Unfortunately, some of them are just awful without a role model. I'm pretty sure, at least, that the one I had would have benefitted greatly by having an alpha male around since most of his issues seemed to resolve around not...

Debate? What debate? I asked questions I'd genuinely like to know the answer to but I guess I asked the wrong person because you seem upset by my curiosity.

You do understand that this is not what hatcheries do, right? If you breed an Ameraucana to a breed that doesn't have the blue shell gene, the offspring will all have a single copy of the blue shell gene. That's fine in the first generation as it only takes one copy to express but then you have...

Oh, you haven't offended an Ameraucana breeder yet, then. They'll give you an earful. :rant

That hasn't been my experience at all. Mine have all started shortly after the production layers, long before the slower maturing breeds. Somewhere in the neighborhood of 20-24 weeks. Where do you get your chicks?

My EEs have all laid eggs that measure large to extra large. The first few eggs are normally smaller than what they'll lay as adults but more like a medium than a bantam egg.

I have a bunch with combs that are difficult to classify. The place I get mine clearly has both pea and rose comb genes in abundance. I haven't gotten any brown layers, just a lot of funky shapes of the cushion type. The one I have that has a perfect pea comb lays green while the one with the...

Her little muffs came in salt & pepper. . This pullet has so much going on with the patterning, it's like she was pieced together from scraps. I'm looking forward to her molt to see what comes next... I feel like she's a bit off the beaten path.

You should be OK with organic dried fruit. The organic guidelines prohibit preservatives like sulphur dioxide.

Make sure any dried fruit is unsulphured. I remember that from my parrot care book -- birds don't tolerate sulphur like we do.

Do a search for scissor beak. I haven't had one with this issue but it is manageable in all but the most severe cases. Just don't ever hatch eggs from that one as the cause is usually genetic.
