Did a prescreen on the sex of the chicks from my September hatch. I'm not making any final decisions in them until next week on a for sure basis. They will be there webs old on Thursday the 8th.
44 chicks left. 17 maybe 19 ( 2 are shouting cockerel but things combs and tails are saying...
That is not a Lavender Laced, sorry. She is a Blue Cochin as in Andalusian blue ( blue-black-splash). If you were going for lavender Kaced you got ripped.
You can breed a Naked Neck to pretty much anything and make Naked Necks, but not all chicks will turn out Naked Necked.
There are a lot of folks crossing NN to Silkie and trying to make Showgirls out of them. It take more than one generation to make them though. The is a thread on Showgirls...
Just Naked Necks of various colors. There are only four varieties recognized by the APA. I have a mostly unrecognized colors as I have been cross breeding to other breeds. But now I'm going to straight NN to NN from now on.
Yes he was a pure bred rumpless.
I really don't think that was tge problem. I think he was just younger than I was told when I bought him.
People report problems with the rumpless breeds and others say that it isn't fertility problems but the ability to mount and balance to do the deed.
Hatching results:
Set 201 eggs.
94 eggs were infertile. 45 of those were from the Araucana rooster. I feel though he was just a little too young yet.
13 eggs had various stages of death during developing so did not hatch.
1 died after hatching and 2 late hatchers were weak and were culled...
Guess I need to find me a dog. I've got possums and coons coming around too often now. I cannot for the life of me figure out how they are getting in. I have found one possibility but really can't figure how it actually got in and out of it.
On the hating note: I think it is just about...
I've got some Splash chicks. I have some from a Blue Jersey Giant over a Blue Copper colored Baked Beck hen. I think they may develop some red on them as they mature.
I also have a Blue Copper Naked Neck rooster that I have over Blue Wheaten and Splash hens.
Their kind of mixed together now...
Here are 5 of the 27 Naked Necked chicks that have hatched so far.
It is a little dark but couldn't get a better shot. I'll get more pictures tomorrow. I just seen that you can't see all five. But they are there.
I have a total of 54 pulled from the hatcher.
27 Naked Necked
27 fully...
That sounds like sinintitus (spelling), and which in my experience is very very hard to cure. It is also spreadable to the rest of the flock.
I've found the best way to cure it is to totally cull the culprit that started it, and put Wazine in the water, I put about 2 to 3 oz per gallon of...
'Pears that way. Keep your fingers crossed for me. I'm hoping to give my hand at vent sexing these. Going to try to keep about 45 pullets and maybe a couple of cockerels, as backups.
Congrats to all who have new chicks, pips and peeps, and the ones going into lockdown.
I ( for first time ever) candled a few of my eggs yesterday (day 10). I saw the baby chicks that were forming. I didn't candle all 201 of them. Just enough to see if there were any fertile ones. Haven't...
Just checking in. Yes I'm still around. I stuck 1 extra egg in the next day after setting.
I've just got my Welsummers hens back to laying and I just collected 5 eggs from them so I stuck a 6th one in.
If all these are to hatch it won't add too many genetics to my NN lines, but maybe...
