I lost one last night, My only white possibly splash cochin. She was just squished under the other chicks and they were just standing on her flat body. OMG I have never seen that. Wicked little creatures. I don't know if she ate something in the yard during field trip time, or if they were...
ugh. Well I had to cull one of my chickies. Little Peg was not improving, had a leg injury from hatchday on. I can't believe how attached I was.
I did wind up picking up 4 barred cochins from the local feed store, and I wound up with a black silkie from the farm where I goat sit... It kept...
Sounds good Mary, of course electronics fall in water, I think there's some kind of attractive force involved. Just let it get really really dry before you turn it on or replace battery.

So it's Monday, and I am working on the chick with the wonky leg. I have decided it isn't spraddle leg but probably the tendon on the hock. One leg is working great, the other she wants to hold up all the time. But since she's a cochin with beautiful leg fuzz I can't see a darned thing to...
Thank you! That's so awesome. I love how it takes just one to try it then there's a mob of them getting in on the water dispenser.
Mine are freaked out by the thing still. I'll try to get a pic of my contraption. I use a rubbermaid tub as a brooder so I had to attach it over the top.

cool thanks Mom! I'm going to try something my hubby said, "can't you just do a wire wrap around it"? So like 2 circles, one on the small end, one up higher, then connect them with wire.
Could probably use rope as well...
Figuring it out today, as I just removed the papertowels and they...
My first intervention is tapping on the incubator and making chicken sounds, and just talking to them to cheer them on when they are zipping. Sometimes this wakes them up and they start working really hard to get out. I do try to give them a break. Like let them rest for 15-30 min and then...
Hey BarefootMom! How did you hang your water bottle? I have the same water tip on a bottle, but I haven't figured out the best way to hang it, I'm afraid it will fall on someone!
Susan
Just keep an eye on them and I wouldn't put them together until the new chicks can actually walk away. You could maybe put them in a little box in the brooder or something, but I just found my 2 day olds jumping up onto the stuffed animal I have in there that's about 2x as tall as they are...
banty black cochin
stuffy hen to hide under in case of cats (the lid snaps on, has wire top, and the door to the room stays closed, but you can never have enough options when there are cats in the house.
omg. don't hate me! This is the helping hand hen hammock... She's out of the...
oh cool. I took her out of the chick chair, she was miserable. it was more like a hen hammock, I'll get the picture off the camera sometime. Poor thing. But while she was there I was finally able to get a vetwrap hobble. She was still sitting on her hocks last time I checked but it is...
