Ours lay blue to blue-green. Diet can also affect the color of their eggs. Weirdly the most green egg layer of ours is a pure Black hen.

You can't have a black split to blue. If it has one gene for blue it is a blue bird (two blue genes make a splash bird). Blue is an incompletely dominant gene. Unless you mean a black from a blue x blue breeding?

I am going to hatch it anyway. My BF keeps telling me that first eggs after a break/pullet eggs are not fertile but my Crested Cream Legbars have just proved him wrong. If it's not broken it goes in the bator...

It's why we put off getting Ameraucanas for so long. If we were going to get "Ameraucanas" the BF wanted ACTUAL Ameraucanas and not Easter Eggers. It's tough to find breeders who breed true Ams and not Easter Eggers. We lucked out and found our first pair on Craigslist from someone a little over...

Every time someone asks me for an Ameraucana I ask them if they want a TRUE Ameraucana or just a bird which lays a colored egg. (The answer is about 75% colored egg and 25% Ameraucana with some questioning about true Ameraucanas.) I live in a super rural area and constantly get questions about...

I am going to try and do better pictures tomorrow. When she isn't moving she has a much smoother saddle (it doesn't help that she has lost a few feathers which you can kind of see in the second picture). Ameraucanas are hard to take photos of. Give me a Wyandotte, or a Silkie, or an Orp and I am...
