Our experience...feeding Purina Trout Chow is great and does wonders for meat chickens but it just didn't work out in FF. And just our opinion, feeding such a high protein product requires no augmentation to gain the benefits of its use.
Okay but I disagree there too, unless you have such a varmint situation that free-raging will open them to unacceptable risks.
Good luck with your program.

I know it's not 'Hoyle' but I ferment only certain grains...brown rice, corn, boss and oats. The brown rice is not cheap but they really like it and so do I. It comes in a 50 pound bag for $31.75 (human grade) and since my family loves it too...I consider the price a bargain.
OK....Here's the new situation I stopped using FF for my trial pullets because despite the fact that they look pretty good, (they also have access to my usual concoction), they are laying smaller eggs than the ones that are not getting FF.
Therefore, there will be no reason for me to return...
If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck... and I didn't say she is...I used the conditional sense, I believe but she certainly is very opinionated.
"many men feel that way, the whole "you get what you pay for" mentality."
That sounds a bit sexists...I don't suppose any women think theirs is the 'only way'...
Oddly enough, I agree with you to a point. I think domestic rabbits will do better on high quality hay products with little or...
I have a couple question about the CX's. Aren't these the same birds that is sold in super markets? When considering expense,
and labor, is it not cheaper to simply buy them from the store, unless there is a marked difference in the quality of the meat and taste...is that the case?
I know some people use pullet eggs to hatch but I never do. I've had better luck hatching eggs from hens that are well into their second run.
It can be a nuisance sometimes because that puts me with chicks in brooders during colder months. It didn't happen this year but might well do so...
My layers took a hit with the cold snap but I'm still getting enough large to extra large eggs to take care of my most important accounts. The pullets are just beginning to take an interest in the nests at nearly 7 months.
I posted this on another thread and decided to post it here and one other place...
Wish me luck!!!
My family and I have been breeding Turkens and Australorps for decades but strictly for production and have managed to do so with considerable success if I may say so.
I have recently...
Hi Bee. You don't live all that far from me...You have an open invitation to visit me and bring a video cam. Would love to sit down and talk shop with you Anyhow!
I'm totally convinced that feeding everything on this farm, a percentage of DE in their diet has help PREVENT many ills that can overcome us. Also the 'dusting troughs' are filled with a DE/with Bentonite Clay and that prevents infestation with exterior vermin.
Compared to the chemical...
How right your Bee. So many folks have no clue as how to live without chemical intervention. I try to use anything like that as rarely as possible. I do worm my young birds and even kids with Valbazen and Ivermectin until they are turned into the laying flock in the spring but after...
Goat milk is a miracle food! lol I love it. I'm really attached to the goats too. Aside from their affectionate ways, they provide what it takes to make all kinds of products...cheese, hard, chevre, farmstead, yogurt, and on and on. I've even made whey cheese but that takes a lot of time and...
I have some pretty good producers and even now, I'm getting about 6 gallons per day from four does. Saanens great goats and I an getting ready to breed them (late, for late kidding)..I make lots of cheese when I'm in the mood and feed the whey to the chickens. Lots of times, I just use all the...
