It has been about 7 years since they were small, I don't remember how fast it happened, time flew by then

I am in southern Mississippi

They really do grow up fast, I remember when we got our 6 hens, they were very small and could fit in my hand. Then within a year they were all big. I do think that I will be doing that so that she can have some companionship again.

Unfortunately I don't know of anyone near me that has hens. I would have to go get young chicks, but she used to be broody like 5-6 years ago, but she didn't stay like that for too long. Her and her sister were and are 7 already. I can only imagine how she feels right now, it's only been her and...

My last hen is making strange noises, very quiet noises. Being very talkative to me today, but not normal talking, but she's quiet and sounds upset.

Do you think day old chicks would be the best way to go? I can take care of them. How would this affect my hen? Will she take on motherhood like that? How will this work with introduction?

One thing is with new hens brings new illnesses and what not, I read somewhere on here that it became a problem for someone.

I'm not sure about more yet, I am really worried about Matilda (my last hen). I would like her to have company. Should I get chicks or a full grown hen? How to I get another full grown hen and make them get along? I have too many questions.

What's worse is I might have noticed it days ago if I didn't just start a job thats hours are from very early morning to the evening (the time they are out of their cage). By the time I get home they are out in already by my friend who lives with me.

I'll make sure to keep the last one good and clean, but now she won't have any other chickens with her, I'm worried about her. I know that she must have been in tremendous pain. They must have gone deep inside her. I know she will be able to be happy with the rest of her sisters.

Now I have 1 left in my flock. She's going to be alone now. I wish I did keep checking on her and noticed this before it became an issue.

Unfortunately she passed away about 30 minutes ago, I had just gotten a call from the vet.

I'm not sure, I only know they cleaned her wound, but I'll call after work to check on her. Unless they call me first which means..you know

For me, my hens aren't "livestock" they are family like our cats and dog

I had to leave her there overnight, but the vet cleaned it and used stuff to get the maggots and eggs off. I'm glad to took her there, they said there were thousands and thousands of eggs. They aren't sure if she'll make it or not, I'm just hoping I don't get a call from them. I have to call...

So I am finally being seen by a vet, just waiting on them to enter the room. I picked her up for the weight, and noticed more maggots have crawled out of her. Wish her luck.

Thank you. And im at the vet, but I will be soaking her. I didn't know this was "early" still. I had no idea flies and maggots can do this that fast, terrifying stuff.

Also, 1-10 just how bad is this right now? Do you think she will recover?

Thank you, I will be doing this, I only have Epsom salts. Right now I am sitting in a waiting room at an emergency vet, I decided to go ahead and get professional help. But depending on how this goes I might be doing that tomorrow.
