    Laying eggs but not sitting

WEll, lo and behold, my peahen laid another egg in the nest even though she had already started sitting on the eggs. Is that unusual?

    Laying eggs but not sitting

Another question...how long will she want to stay with her chicks once hatched before I separate them, keeping the chicks penned and letting her free range again?

    Laying eggs but not sitting

My peahen suddenly decided to go broody and this morning started sitting on the last three eggs that she laid that were still in her nest. Is it possible she will lay more while she is sitting there or is she down for the count?

    Laying eggs but not sitting

Still trying to get information from Dr. Wolf. I talked with him and he told me to send my contact info to his e-mail address which I did. Still waiting for next response. BUT, I now have three chicken hens sitting on four eggs each so maybe I will get lucky and hatch out some peachicks. The...

    Laying eggs but not sitting

Actually, it is Dr. Wolf who is supposed to call me back. And no, it should NOT be that difficult - but I worked in the Florida Legislature for 25 years and heard all the horror stories from folks trying to get information from our state government. Now I am on the other end...so now I know...

I wish I could send them right away but I am told I need to be certified NPIP and inspected by the state. I am checking into this now. Not sure how long it will take. Ugh. Always something. I will let you know what I find out.

    Laying eggs but not sitting

Well, lucky me. I have another chicken hen that has gone broody and I put the latest 4 peahen eggs under her. She seems quite happy on top of those big eggs and is hunkered down for the duration. The other chicken hen that was sitting on her own eggs can now continue on with hatching out her...

    Laying eggs but not sitting

Thank you for the suggestion - I think it just might work or at least it is worth a try. If she does stay broody long enough to hatch out the peafowl eggs, is there a chance I could return her own chicks to her and give the peafowl chicks to my peahen? Or would that put all the chicks at risk...

    Laying eggs but not sitting

Thanks for the advice...I don't have an incubator but I do have a broody chicken hen sitting on 2 week old chicken eggs. I am thinking of taking the peahen eggs and putting under the broody hen, though I hate removing the 2 week old chicken eggs. Guess I have to make a decision here. Any...

    Laying eggs but not sitting

My peafowl started laying on March 14th and as of April 1st has laid 6 eggs. I have read that the eggs lose viability after 7 - 10 days and also that she should start sitting after laying 6 - 8 eggs. As I do the math, even if she starts sitting after 6 eggs, at least half of the eggs may no...
