Tonight, the end of Day 21, with no more movement from Charlotte's egg, DH pipped the aircell. We found a perfectly formed chick, completely absorbed yolk, apparently too large to maneuver to pip on its own. It completely filled the egg. Crud! It was beautiful, too. Well, two more go in the...
This morning, Day 21, Silver's egg has pipped, but nothing from Charlotte's yet. I only have those two due today. Two more go into the hatcher this Sunday, then the bigger hatch of eight goes into the hatcher on the 21st.
***Silver's chick hatched about 1:45 EST and still no pip from Charlotte's...
That is a tray my DH made of wood trim scraps with green plastic garden fencing as the bottom. We placed the shelf liner on top of that. The water is in a ceramic dish up on a shelf to the right of that tray. Check out this Fridge-a-Bator thread to see more details...
Yep, it's that rubbery, holey shelf liner. The BR is giant comparatively, but so was the egg it came out of. The Orp is almost zipped out of the egg now, so won't be long till all four are in the brooder today. And the BR has lots of black down the front of the legs, a good sign for a PULLET!
Well, as you know, when they're wet, it's pretty hard, but I think right now, I have a blue from Silver and a black one from Charlotte. The blue is drier and the one I believe is black just hatched less than 30 minutes ago so its still very wet.
This morning, I have both Ameraucanas and the Barred Rock hatched and the Blue Orp is still at pip stage, but this is the middle of Day 21, so we're doing great here!
Adam, you are too kind! And you are so much fun to do this "project" with, too. I highly recommend it as a life experience, just like Adam said. Go for it!
Oh, I hope so, Christina! Someone from BYC has already claimed the two Orp boys that are four weeks old now and will be picking them up next Tuesday, along with the Ameraucana boy with the wild feather patterns. I think one of the two week old Ameraucanas is a girl and one is a boy, but they are...
Thanks, Lynn, my friend. You always tell me what I want to hear and sometimes what I need to hear, LOL.
Lori, let me take some pics tonight and try to post. I may not be able to do the interior right now, but let me see what I can do, okay?
***I posted pics under a separate heading, Lori. Take...
You know, Lori, the little dorm fridges are only about $100 brand new, I think, maybe a little more. If you cant find an old one, you could get a new one and take out the compressor. For a few more supplies, you have less money in it than most styro-bators with all the accessories.
Here they...
The pipping is my favorite part, too. I usually don't have any problems hatching and this Fridge-a-Bator is the best hatcher! Its so super insulated that it holds the values very steady. Makes it easy on me.
Went fine with my dad. That neighbor couple have lived beside him for about 25 years and they're nice people. We walked my acreage that I'm selling on the trails we cut a long time ago and try to maintain and the fall colors were gorgeous. Then went out to eat. My dad was emotional since this is...
