I have a friend who is a judge, I know she has never seen a Modern, but I shall ask her for a copy of the Standard. I know there's 3 or 4 breeders here in the UK that keep them going, but they never seem to show them. They are supposed to be clean-legged, and more game-type than the Croad. They...

You know Pet Rock: It may not be a sign of weakness to help a few chicks out of the shell. I strongly believe that we get more chicks dead in the shell in a machine than under a hen, and that I blame on the incubator, not the little chicks. So many things can go wrong for eggs in an incubator...

You are clearly going about it the right way, as people has done before you, and hopefully people will do after you. The best proof and guide will always be the standards of the breed, and looking at the American Standard and all the different European ones, makes one understand how well the...

That looks a good color. In fact the correct color is not pink, as many seems to think. It is plum/peach, with that dusting that is the special characteristic, so your egg is neat perfect, I think. Dont be disapointed when all her eggs are not quite like that, that is just normal. As long as she...

A big Australian "syndicate" has imported 1.000's of eggs from rare breeds, among them Langshans. The program looks like it must end, as they have found salmonella in ONE of the chicks. Read this link: http://www.foodmag.com.au/news/salmonella-scare-could-see-rare-chickens-slaughter The...

They are. This is my favourite picture. They are not the best Langshans I have had, I just think this photo really shows them off.

I agree with Matt. I dont see why we should cross two pure breeds. If you cross them they will end up looking like Australian Langshans. On a different note, we are working hard to spread the breed. We sent 18 eggs to Belgium, this is all we had (white LF).

It is on page 126 in this book. http://openlibrary.org/works/OL245088W/The_American_standard_of_perfection_illustrated Bear in mind that this is the 1910 version. I think the only thing that has altered much are the "headbits". There are 100s of old poultrybooks on this site, use the search-box...

I agree with Mikaela. This boy is a year old soon, and his sickles has come the last few weeks. He is not much to look at, but he is all I have, as I have had to sell everything, as my legs are getting so bad now, I can hardly walk. But, he will do, he can breed with the two hens I have kept back.

They are indeed the Croad-type. I think some of you that are into the breed for the long term should join the Croad Langshan Club here in the UK. We have a few members in other European countries and in Australia, and I do believe there are some in the US as well? It is very handy to pay the...

I will disagree with you there, when you say the egg-color is not mentioned in early writings about the breed. In AC Croads book I found mentionings two places straight away. On the top of page 30 she writes: "they were due even in that case to the Langshan parentage, rather than the other. The...
