egg bound or Egg peritonitis?

@Amiga Well, Persi is acting herself 100% again. She is on antibiotics and the anti inflammatory and is on the 3rd consecutive day of laying again. I hoped she'd slow down on that but her every a.m. laying schedule has resumed...I guess that's her normal. The eggs are normal size and have yolks in them. We are still keeping a watchful eye on her and hope that we are out of the woods and ahead of infection.

As a side note, I noticed some red mites crawling on her. I haven't really noticed these before. My muscovy spotted them on Persi and ate them off her. I wonder if that's an issue or a sign of anything? I use deep litter method and wondering how to kill those things without killing good bacteria too?

Yeah, that's what I was thinking...but then I heard it's bad for their respiratory system if they rummage through the coop and inhale the powder. Can mites be harmful to the ducks?

Diatomaceous earth?
Doesn't work. You need to powder her with Sevin's or spray her with permethrin.

The reason why I'm reading your conversation is because my duck is laying eggs like normal and layed one today, but is acting egg bound. I felt inside and she is painful, but I don't feel any egg. She poop even is like everyone is saying - more mucus than anything else.

Infection? Don't know, but I just called my vet.

Hope she gets better soon!
