My husband met a man who's raised chickens for 45 years, who told him that you can tell the sex of a potential chick from the shape of the egg.
According to the "eggspert", if the egg is elongated, with a pointy top, it's a rooster. If it's round, with a wide, round top, it's a hen.
Has anyone ever found this to be true?
We have a hen who just went broody, and want to put some eggs under her, but would love to have only girls hatching....

There are tons of tales like this floating around. It's doubtful
many are true.

I heard if you sing Elvis songs to your eggs it will increase your
rooster rate.

This "old wives tale" pops up even more regularly than tax increases. No one has ever been able to prove that it is correct, but the fable just won't die. Kind of like the gold ring on a silk thread method of sexing anything. If it was an effective method, everyone would be using it. That said, it can't hurt to "give it a go" and see how it turns out. A perfectly good reason to set some more eggs.

I doubt anyone needs help with that. The roos seem to do just fine on their own! Of the 4 that hatched yesterday morning, 3 of them have little combs whereas the last one doesn't. I'm hoping some of them are still hens and just early bloomers!

As for the shape of eggs determining the sex of the chick, I heard this as well and tried it to see,,, still 90% roosters hatched out of roundish eggs so i say its a crock too
