Weak Egg Yolk Wall

We recently got our hens already at laying age, so we have only had about a dozen and a half eggs in the past two weeks, but a couple of them have have the yolk wall break when we put them into a pan. Is there something they need more in their diet to prevent this? Is there any harm to eating them? I can see how this would be a problem if they were fertilized and we were breeding, but we are not.

Thanks.

I don't have any answers for you, as I don't think I understand the problem.
But new layers take time to perfect laying the perfect egg...

hopefully someone will come along that knows more than I do.

Congrats and

I had the same problem with 1 of my 23 hens. They are all new layers (within the past month). I think the overall diet must have been okay. So I increased the oyster shell and there has been improvement.

The problem is, it makes me want to cry when my yolk breaks in the pan

The perfect egg is over easy, yolk intact and runny. yum yum.

A friend of mine has recently been having this kind of problem, and I found the following website about it:

http://edis.ifas.ufl.edu/ps020#TABLE_5 (there's an underline between TABLE and 5 that doesn't show up here)

long story short, the possible causes of weak yolks listed at this site:

age of hens

age of eggs

improper storage temperature

indirect effect of poor shell quality

nicarbizin (an anticoccidial drug)
