i have a few chickens and a peacock that have coryza and i was told tylan 50 would help cure it. well its injectable and i am wondering where you give them a shot at???

We give them shots into the Breast general area - please please read this website http://shilala.homestead.com/injection.html because it's an excellent guide on how to do this right and not harm the chickens! and good luck! I make the DW do the shots cause she's so much better at them then I am

Oh man, I am so sorry to hear coryza (aka BIG EVIL!) is visiting you. I had to put down several hundred birds last summer....very sad.

Tylan is definitely the way to go. The safest way to do it is injecting into the skin at the back of the neck. The bummer is that sometimes the feathers are too dense to really get to the skin easily OR the needle goes all the way through and out the other side of the neck (not good....) OR the fluid pockets up and then oozes back out. When I get frustrated I lay the bird on it's back in my lap and run the injection next to the keel.

I had it last summer and put down nearly everyone. However, I kept a handful of survivors so I vaccinate new birds. It's a total drag but it seems to be working.

Good luck.

i gave mine shots in his thigh...
i'm too scared to even think of injecting into their breast... to many organs and the crop....
but i'm a wimp...

thanks everyone.im not quite confident to give a shot but im not scared either.but everyone is saying different places to give shots.i dont know where the best place is anymore.lol.

I just gave my Silkie rooster a shot and I used the shilala.homestead site which someone just posted. It was a great guide and I sucsessfully did it. You do need someone else to hold the bird. And I put the needle into the roosters breast. You can do it!
