Yes- for 90% of Australia ventilation is more important than warmth. And shade is also most important.
If you look back over the photos on this thread - box to the right of thread- you will see photos of most of
my chook houses. Nearly all are shaded by large trees I planted 20 years ago.
Yes I agree - the run and coop are shaded from a pine and gum tree, there's windows (took the glass out and replaced with chicken wire) up the top of the coop for ventilation, and as I said, those will stay there
The doorway into the roosting/nesting box area will not have a hinged door and will most likely remain a walkway through.

I definitely agree with the shade and ventilation; it all comes down to location, location, location. I sadly learnt from experience that too much shade and the wrong location prevents rapid drying out and promotes damp, germ friendly breeding grounds in the wet season

Yes and wet mouldy coop = upper respiratory problems. Without sufficient ventilation , from the floor up, the urates in the poo convert to ammonia and the fumes will leave you with very unhealthy chooks.
Well the coop isn't being moved haha, definitely has to stay where it is.

We are only generalizing. Your coop looks like its in a good spot. So long as it's off the ground you won't have any problems. The one thing we did with our Reno was put Lino on the floor. Makes cleaning easy. We glued it about 10-15 cm up the wall so all the gunk doesn't get trapped in the crease.

Sorry, yep, definitely just generalising, I wasn't suggesting that anyone's coops were in the wrong spot or needed moving
My coop was off the ground but what I thought was a good spot, not so much. Because the coop was off the ground and in a nice shadier area, this made under the coop super shady. Because of the location, the area under the coop did not get enough air flow or dry out quick enough. The same coop, same height off the ground but in a more preferable location now dries out nicely underneath. There is still ample shade but lots more free flowing air in the new location.
It boiled down to a bad choice on my part and one of those learning curves

Luckily I don't seem to have a problem with ventilation or muddiness. Yes the run turns to muck when it rains, but once the sun comes out it dries up relatively quickly.
