Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Yes. But I have 3 birds, not 9. If the 3 of them were allowed to drink the litre that would be 3x the dosage. Wouldn't it?

They will drink as much water as they need. It is the proportion of drench to water that is important for the drench to be effective. Is that as clear as mud? :D It doesn't matter whether they are bantams or large birds, they will drink the amount of water they need to stay hydrated. Bantams will drink less than large fowl.

Thanks for the reply. That makes sense.

Another thing, should I only leave the medicated water in for 1 day and then remove it so they don't overdo it? Also, 2 of the hens are sitting on eggs ATM so are the likely to drink enough of the water in the one day? Thanks in advance.

Hi, thanks for the reply!
I am using pine shavings as that's what we got recommended.. Only using a small amount.. We will move them outside in another week or 2 so ill just lay down newspaper in the top coop??

Also can't use prestige powder until 3 months of age :( they are only 6 weeks old... Also I got them from a hatchery I didn't hatch them myself :) I have been using a fidos concentrate as was recommended by a vet.. It works well but I can't seem to cover their whole body as there always seems to be more that re appear! Also their bedding gets changed everyday!

:)

Depends what is causing the sneezing and snot. did you hatch the chickens yourself? What are they being kept on? Sometimes pine shaving can cause them to sneeze alot.
For lice i would use pestine powder. You can get it from your local produce store or pet store. Dust them in it and clean out there cage get rid of all old bedding etc. You can use Ag lime in the run too or if you are talking scaley leg mites you cover the legs with either Vaseline or  vapour rub to smother them.

Sulphur is the active constituent in pestine. You can buy it at ag and garden stores for a couple of dollars a kilo. I remove the hay out of the nest boxes and sprinkle it all round. Then replace with clean hay . Coopex garden pesticide is good for a big coop clean out.
I don't use wood shavings or sawdust anymore. I found that apart from the dust it created the chicks were eating it, sometimes with dire results. Through trial and error I found that a 20 k bag of plain oaten chaff does the trick. It is non toxic, doesn't get caught up in their system and is ready to use on the garden.

Leave the water in till its all gone. Your Broodiies will come out at some time for a drink. If you don't feel comfortable administering in water, you could make a layer mash and add the dose of piperazine to that. 2 ml in 250 ml of warm water added to the mash would be plenty for your 3.

I like Aus, but it would still be nice to visit other countries.

Our daughter is going to France next year, to sing in the choir at the dawn services in le Somme on Anzac Day. When I was at school our biggest excursion was to the Kiama blow hole.

oh and I remember going to sing in the choir at the opening of the Sydney opera house.

Just went on that excursion (if you meant Kiama not Kama) with my daughter last year lol. Not as much fun now they've gone all OHS and fenced it. Much more fun when you could get close enough to get wet :). Mind you people did tend to fall in and drown I suppose so maybe the fencing wasn't that bad an idea.
