What people who are not involved in the background of BYC are not aware of is that it was move to a new platform or NO BYC!!!!!!! The old platform was overloaded and coming apart at the seams because of all the patches that had to be added to keep it going. Sooner or later it was going to blow to bits and that day wasn't far off.

So there was a choice to be made and one not taken lightly.

No doubt through the next few days there are going to have to be adjustments made due to the bulk of traffic and ensuring all databases are responding as they should. So expect some slow periods and glitches!

No doubt there is a learning curve for this platform. This would have been an issue no matter where we went. Other platforms where tested and this one was clearly the best option in order to get all the commonly requested options the members wanted.

I understand the frustration many feel. I HATED this platform on the first test. It was a HUGE change! But after seeing other options and playing here for a few weeks this was hands down the best option for the future of BYC.

Thank you for understanding. It is all new, and with new comes frustration. It will take time....

I'll say what I said on another thread one more time...

A big migration like this will have it's issues. (my husband is a program developer, I know how it goes) and this is all for our own good in the long run! After I saw that poll feedback thread got closed, I felt REALLY bad about how the BYC staff has been treated when they've been working their behinds off for us! I wanted to start a THANK YOU thread to encourage everyone to be positive and show some appreciation, but I was worried that I would either be chased down by an angry mob, or it would turn into another complaint thread.

I love this place and I feel so bad for them. They really have put a ton of time and planning into this, and yeah it didn't go perfect, but nothing this big does. When they had the site down, all we all did was complain and beg for them to get it back up ASAP and they did pretty darn quick for as big of a transformation as this is!

I've had quite a few challanges, but most of them are better. Not bad for less than 24 hours of being back up. When I started checking out the cool new features, I had fun! Others will feel the same way after giving it a chance.

THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO HAS WORKED SO HARD ON THIS UPGRADE FOR US!! YOU DESERVE A PAT ON THE BACK. (and I love this silly spoil alert feature for some reason! lol)

Most of us will adjust. Some will not. Not too much we can do about it. I spent several hours on here off and on and I have not only adjusted but actually like most all the changes. It is helpful to go to the thread that is for practice as well.

Rob had some pretty hard decisions on this. Much like the last move BYC made. Either update everything or face BYC going black with nothing in place.

This was a topic that stretched on for months in the background.

If the complainers would spend some time on a few of the fish and turtle forums they'd come running back here praising the changes lol
I think this is wonderful and the most updated (up to date) forum I'm on. Thanks to everyone who made it happen!

well, personally, after yesterday with no byc at all..... you guys done good! Keep up the good work! and folks will adjust...:) i think we are alot like our chickens- we like things the way they are and don't like change- we can be a silly flock....

Well said, kstaven. Change can be hard, but who among us didn't have a learning curve learning the old platform to some extent? I know figuring out how to upload pics was a tough one for me on the old platform. But I did it and survived. We'll learn the new platform too. My first half-hour on it was frustrating this morning but having spent several hours picking my way around it today, I'm already becoming more familiar with it and am very glad of some of the new features.

I hope everyone will accept my sincere apologies for any negativity you've seen from me.

In fact I went back to delete my posts with any negativity, but oops... can't do that anymore!

Sincere thanks to Rob, and the mods. Soon we'll wonder how we ever lived without this platform.
