Caging chickens

Without knowing your reasons for wanting to cage the chickens, I wouldn't recommend it. There's hardly any room to move around, no roosts, wire under their feet...I don't think the chickens would be very happy. JMHO.

Are you talking about long term housing or a temporary brooder/holding pen? For a temporary holding pen, it might work OK for adult chickens, but never for baby chicks without altering the floor wire size. My vote is a big time "NO". If you want to raise chickens, bone up on some of the coop/run designs and brooder designs available on this forum. Would you buy a dog and keep it in a cage like this permanently?
These types of cages are OK for full grown chickens for a few hours at a time. That's it.

Yeah could be. I haven't seen PETA type trolls here before (not that I'm doubting they exist). What would their gripes with chicken owners be? That some of us eat the chickens? I don't get it. Pretty clear from the responses on this thread alone that we don't support animal cruelty.

The mere fact that humans "own them", and make them live their lives in man-made "huts" and feed the chicks feed with "antibiotics". Then we eat their eggs and sometimes eat the birds themselves. We obviously are a cruel bunch. Trolls are looking for any ammunition that they can get to further their cause. Don't underestimate their tactics. Reasonable "gripes" have nothing to do with their intentions.
