The Definitive Brewers Yeast Thread

There's lots of advice spread around BYC, and the rest of the 'net about using brewers yeast for your ducks, but there seems to be a lot of disparity about how important it is, what kind and how much to use, how and when to administer it, and that doesn't even address the brewers yeast vs. niacin question. (Which probably deserves a separate thread, for search purposes, so let's just stick to brewers yeast here, please.

Based on the various recommendations I've read, I expect there to be a considerable amount of controversy over these issues. Let's see if we can hash out some good guidelines for the beginning duck raisers like me.

I'm not using brewers yeast so I have nothing to offer.

Since my only duckling last summer to hatch was raised by me and not his mama, I used 1 teaspoon of Brewers yeast sprinkled on top of his feed each day till he was about 12 weeks old. I was concerned about leg problems since the only feed I can get is chicken starter. I was only able to find it in the natural food store here.

OldGuy43, I have read a number of things about niacin and my best guess is that some ducklings are susceptible to low niacin and others aren't, which makes it difficult to come up with a broad recommendation. I'll take a look at your links . . . thanks for trying to come up with some helpful information for new duck stewards.
